The National Rifle Association is targeting YETI after the Texas-based maker of high-dollar cups and coolers dropped its sponsorship of the Friends of NRA Foundation Banquet and Auction events around the country, according to an alert issued by NRA Florida lobbyist Marion Hammer today. The YETI coolers have been a hot item for sportsmen at the events for years, according to Hammers alert.
Suddenly, without prior notice, YETI has declined to do business with The NRA Foundation saying they no longer wish to be an NRA vendor, and refused to say why. They will only say they will no longer sell products to The NRA Foundation. That certainly isnt sportsmanlike. In fact, YETI should be ashamed. They have declined to continue helping Americas young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities. These activities enable them to appreciate America and enjoy our natural resources with wholesome and healthy outdoor recreational and educational programs, the alert reads. In this day and age, information is power. We thought you needed this information.
The NRA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization, according to the alert, which also includes a link to YETIs online contact service/.
Makes sense. Probably a discount involved too.
I have been told that YETI has a fantastic product. Unfortunately I will never know personally.
We’ve got some. High price point, but excellent quality.
We will never purchase Yeti again.
Never bought their overpriced stainless cups with the worst-designed lids anyway.
That statement is a bit misleading.
Texas-based due to their headquarters is in Austin Tx.
They’re out of Austin, TX....nough said....LOL
Here’s my email to em:
“Having had a Roadie for awhile and impressed with how it worked, we recently wanted to buy a Tundra 65 for installation in our new boat. The only problem is, not only are we avid boaters and fishermen, we are also avid hunters, shooters and life members of the NRA.
Figured you might want to know that. Since since you’ve decided to no longer support us (we’re the NRA), we won’t be buying that new Tundra 65 from ya. Instead, we’ll be purchasing a similar product from one of your competitors, and we’ll also be “spreading the word” to our fellow outdoorsmen. There is a “sliver lining” in all of this as you’ve saved us a pile of money!! Your competitor is a lot less expensive, works just as good, and has no gripe against the shooting sports. Thanks!
FWIW, you may have nice products, but ya got some really stupid upper management. Austin, TX???? Enough said. Bye YETI.....and a big helloooo to RTIC in Houston.”
The same genius at JC Penney who thought that tailoring their ads and apparel to homos and lesbos would increase their revenue.
What Yeti sink like a bowling ball financially.
RTIC coolers
Yeti Holdings Withdraws IPO Plans
Found the article, but the link is now dead. The article said that the IPO had been withdrawn due to "market conditions". I'll see if I can find another article on the IPO.
When I was young companies used to give away free t-shirts, mugs, stickers, etc... as promotional advertising. I remember getting a free Coca Cola t-shirt when I was about ten years old. My Mom also got one. Nowadays a person has to pay a premium to buy a t-shirt and advertise for them.
They have been masters at marketing and now have us paying them to give them free advertising.
Good. I am in the market for a new cooler and travel mugs. Nice to know I can remove them from consideration.
Yeti Coolers Withdraws Its IPO
They can't/won't go ahead with the IPO in an economy that's going great guns, ha ha, but they think they can afford to infuriate a goodly chunk of their customer base?!
I'm thinking there's got to be a quid pro quo involved.
We just purchased over 100 tumblers, of an off brand/knock off. They work just as well as the much pricier Yeti version. Made in the same China factory, probably :-)
I remember, a few years back, a story was going around about someone who had purchased an Rctic tumbler (in a store) that actually had a Yeti bottom. Oops!
Who knows?
I buy used coolers at flea markets..
And I’ve picked up some at probate auctions. Nice ones too! I don’t think I have ever psid more than $5 for one.
I hand them out to the family, designate a couple as fishing coolers, the trailer outfit etc...
From the web: Yeti HQ is Austin TX - “Our Tundra coolers are manufactured in the USA at facilities located in Iowa and Wisconsin as well as at a facility located in the Philippines. Our Hopper coolers are manufactured in China.”
Truthfully, I’ve never seen one because I do not purchase coolers retail market.
I used to keep my eyes open for a very large cooler, like the kind used for offshore fishing, then rationality struck me when I realized that with ice alone, it would be far beyond a manageable weight.
Another product on my personal boycott list.
Maybe the private equity firm that owns Yeti is getting something out of this...
Bump
Pretty much every customer event I’m at in my business, one or two of the other vendors gives away a Yeti cooler as a door prize.
I suspect that corporate purchases are their bread and butter. I can’t see too many individuals dropping several hundred dollars on a foam box.
