Any casual analysis of the situation can easily project the end game: NK will continue - under China's patronage - to develop & deploy nuclear weapons. It makes no sense for the US to continue a heavy armed presence when a bypass is inevitable.
So, you take a guy like Trump who doesn't have any coin in the game, listens to the analysts project how many nukes NK will develop & deploy over the coming years/decades, and realizes the US presence is the hang up.
Dangle some big $money in front of the NK leadership, and allow (re) unification to proceed essentially no differently than when E Germany collapsed almost 30 years ago. US leaves, Korea is unified, China/US monitor/manage, and the peninsula is denuclearized.
Give the NK leaders & workers a taste of some $ and trim down in SE Asia, and Nelly, bar the door."

Everything, EVERYTHING changed the day the nuke testing tunnel, for some reason (/s), collapsed killing over 200 of his top people on the program and also the means to progress forward. I think there was only one rocket test after that and it went very wrong.
Now, Inquiring minds want to know what caused that ‘collapse’. I submit as part of the crew of the USBN Jimmy Carter coming into port twice flying the Jolly Roger flag just under the Stars and Stripes around that same time will be telling once all is known.

It's been said that the reason Kim doesn't want to give up nukes, is that he doesn't want to be vulnerable to winding up like Qaddafi. OK, then, offer him sanctuary in some country, plus a $billion, so he can live out his life in splendor. In exchange, North Korea becomes a Chinese protectorate, and all offensive weaponry gets removed.
Otherwise, Trump gives South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan the go-ahead to develop their own nukes, something that would absolutely freak China out.
