GI Jews: Jewish Americans in World War II” begins as many Holocaust documentaries do, with a history of the rise of Hitler and Nazism in Germany mixed with what is now standard archival footage of Brownshirts and Kristallnacht. Throw in interviews with some Jewish celebrities — in this case, Carl Reiner and his friend Mel Brooks wearing his old Army jacket — and it has all the workings of a typical PBS documentary.
But the film, which premieres April 11, on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, quickly takes an unexpected turn. Jewish-American soldiers, the viewer learns, weren’t only fighting Nazis during the war — they had to battle the anti-Semitic prejudice of many of their fellow soldiers.
All told, some 550,000 Jews served in World War II. A few had experienced anti-Semitism at home already in the form of “Gentiles Only” signs, for example, which were found at some public facilities across the country.

Funny story about a P47 pilot friend of mine, now sadly deceased. His aircraft got shot up pretty bad over Italy and he was just trying to get back to base. Some German fighters were trying to kill him, he was in big trouble.
He was on the radio calling for help. It was some fighters from the black Red Tail Squadron that saved his ass. My friend was a Southern Boy from Louisiana. I asked him how he felt about being saved by black pilots. He said, “those (N word) looked damn good to him that day.” He lost his prejudice he grew up with in battle over Italy. He did use the N word but not in prejudice but that was just what he was and the way he spoke. He was a good man.
Yep. It was an actual mistake to put “J” on the name tags. An innocent mistake that had tragic consequences. Such was that part of history.
Agreed. I don’t shy away from history. Warts and all. It is what it is. We were an imperfect nation that did heroic things.

Someday folks like you are going to be very disappointed when the overwhelming majority of US citizens are going to refer to each other as Americans, not hyphenated Americans.
I see many comments on the internet regarding Anti_Semitism mostly due to Hollywood elites such as Woody Allen, Rivera, and many others in the past who are part of the left that have an intense disdain for anything that’s to the right or Christian. They support Barack Obama and the Democratic Party that support Arab States intent on destroying Israel. If they really believe in what they say, why do they insist on keeping themselves separate, but everyone else should give up their identity that’s Anglo-Saxon?

I can’t say it’s all Jews because I haven’t spoken to all Jews, but I had a Jewish friend who was so wishy-washy when it came to leftist-democrats and would kiss their ass even when they hated Israel. She would use the same disdainful jargon toward people in the South where I live.
If you are so interested in accuracy in History you should do some research. Prior to 1952 the following designation for Religious affiliation of a GI were
P = Protestant, C = Catholic, H = Hebrew (Jewish)
If a soldier had no religious affiliation this was left blank. There was never the letter 'J'. I said you were full of Crap.
However having the letter 'H' did place American Soldiers of Jewish religious affiliation serving in the European Theater of Operation in special danger.
But African American Soldiers did not need a name tag to place them in harms way if captured by the Germans which is just my point that you are full of it.

Until the world found out where this "casual" anti-semitism led to (the holocaust), all of this was to be found across the USA and Europe
