Facebook scans the contents of messages that people send each other on its Messenger app blocking any that contravene its guidelines, it has emerged.
The scandal-hit firm, still reeling from revelations surrounding Cambridge Analytica, checks images and texts to ensure they are in line with its community standards.
While the intentions behind the practice may be well-meaning, the news is likely to add to users' concerns over what the social network knows about them.

I have never been a member, but visit Facebook pages of small businesses that are. If the privacy of non-members has been invaded, there ought to be hell to pay.

Your smart phone also actively listens to your random speech content even when not on the phone. At work we have done experiments with this. Three of us will talk about an obscure thing like “squirrels in the garden stealing fruit”.

You’re absolutely right. I have lost count of the number of times my wife and l will talk about something obscure and look it up on the phone (Apple) and boom the auto fill goes right to it.
I don’t use messaging and I only read on FB.
Not a problem until they admit they are listening in on my phone calls.
