Yoko Ono was the cause of the Band’s break up - she totally sucked, both as a singer and a human being. Hard to believe John latched on to such a wretched woman. Then again, without Paul’s lyrical brilliance, John would have gone nowhere. Paul proved himself the master lyricist when he formed Wings.

Yoko was hideous. The Beatles (Paul does anyway) truly understood music composition.

John cared for her for many reasons. One main one is that she was already recognized as an ‘artist’ on her own and another is that she was utterly unimpressed with his wealth and fame (being from *VERY* wealthy family, just below and interrelated with that of the Emperor’s, IIRC). I imagine that was pleasant after years of being fawned over by women more in love with ‘ a Beatle’ than the person themselves.

Ono's presence was partly to blame, but there were many other
reasons...mainly McCartney was becoming a bit of a control freak and
Harrison was only allowed two songs per LP contributed greatly and they
were just growing apart. I hate Ono just as much as the next Beatles fan
but she gets a bad rap as the only cause of their break up IMHO...Maca's
solo stuff is better than Lennon's on the whole but Lennon's "Double Fantasy"
holds up lyrically with most of Paul's LP's.

The Beatles had all kinds of issues at this point. IMO, Yoko just became the focal point for all those grievances. She was an issue but only one of many and not THE cause of the breakup. She might have been the straw that broke the camel's back but she was not the major portion of the load.

Then again, without Paul’s lyrical brilliance, John would have gone nowhere.

As a songwriting team, these two were unmatched in pop era. I totally disagree with your analysis. John was the lyricist of the two. Paul didn't write anything to consistently rival the lyrics of John such as in Girl, In My Life, Strawberry Fields Forever, his portion of Day in the Life or lots of other songs where he was the primary lyricist. Paul's greatest strength was writing incredible melodies. George Martin once commented that Paul was envious of John's ability to turn a phrase and John was envious of Paul's ability to compose melodies. I've always thought that the pair needed each other in songwriting. Besides filling in the gaps of the other in lyrics and melody, John had a tendency toward anger and bitterness in his lyrics that Paul moderated and Paul had a tendency towards fluffiness in his lyrics to which John could add an edge.

Back when I had my band one of the guys got a new girlfriend who started influencing him away from practices.

We told him we didn’t like Yoko. She didn’t like us much after she found out her name.
