The New Yorker Mag is banned but here is a fascinating article on printer paper jams. I hope Jim Robinson indulges me.
LINK ONLY https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/02/12/why-paper-jams-persist
# What is the number one thing that get smashed by baseball bats in company rage rooms?
# What printing pioneer got killed by his printer 150 years ago?
# How logjams when moving logs down river are related to printer paper jams.
That is what helped make the Penske file so impressive!
The couple of Brother lasers have impressed me.
HP is junk.
I had a good friend who, many years ago, went to work for HP as an ME in printer design.
The most difficult problem was handling paper; it does not want to pushed through narrow slots, get printed on, get fused and come out nice.
Demonic machines and black magic is the only stuff that works.
Did they mention the #1 cause, demonic possession?
I have an old HP 1200 Laser and have replaced some rollers etc., to take care of frequent jams. I recently bought Boise Cascade paper at Office Depot - usually buy OD brand but the other was cheaper. Oh! My! When this paper jams, it is so thin it tears trying to remove it from the printer.
Never had that problem with OD paper - could release the levers and pull the paper out without any problem.
I was going to disagree, then decided I'll just defer to your superior knowledge. Those in the business of specifying and making gears will never see our discussion.
I have used printers for a very long time as a bookkeeper / accounting person.
I was always taught-—from the VERY early days that you should CAREFULLY open the paper packaging, and not bend any corners. Then, fan the paper back & forth each side & each end. 4 total. I still have a printer next to this computer, and I am very careful to make sure paper is fanned well. Since it gets flattened down hard in transport, it needs to break loose from the surrounding sheets.
I also know that the higher the humidity in your area, the worse the paper jamming can become chronic.
I live where the average humidity is about 14 %, so I am ahead of that problem.
PC LOAD LETTER
Ha ha I knew that would be here.
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta!
Let me tell you about TPS reports!
The K-man can fix jams on the copier!
He did some fine work in the meeting today.
One of the best scenes in the movie!
Yup.
Brother is the best.
I had an HP and the ink cartridges jammed so much, I ended up spending probably 500 bux on them - finally gave up and sent that fool to the dump.
My Brother has NEVER jammed - a couple times I had to use the re-align function, but that’s it! And it prints CD’s or pictures.
Surprised they did not mention humidity: Seems like everybody now thinks everybody works in a beautifully controlled indoor environment.
I have 2 hp Laserjet B&W printers total 12 years old with hundreds of thousands of copies and have never had one printer jam.
It does it's job beautifully.
Best printer we have ever had.
I repair printers for a living. The lines on the copied pages that only appear when using the automatic document feeder (ADF) is because the scan glass has crud on it. Lift the lid and you will see a narrow, 1/2 wide inch or so, glass to the left of the main glass. This is the area where the ADF scan takes place. A rag or paper towel, with rubbing alcohol, will remove the mark causing the line. Look at the position of the line, and it will correspond to spot where the crud or ink spot is.
Humidity was mentioned several times in the full article, including replicating the humidity and temperature in the room of a piece of equipment a customer had complained about.
