FULL TITLE: Shocking new pictures lay bare Death Row inmate's injuries from botched execution he said was so painful that he just wanted doctors to 'get it over with'
A Death Row inmate wished for death during a botched execution that saw him stabbed 11 times in the legs and groin with needles.
Doyle Lee Hamm was due to be executed on February 22 for the murder of Patrick Cunningham, but the procedure had to be called off after doctors were unable to find a vein.
Hamm, who was too weak to stand after the ordeal, was left bleeding from the groin and urinated blood an hour later, a medical examiner's report says.
Bernard Harcourt, Hamm's attorney, had warned ahead of time that cancer treatment had left him with compromised veins and that he was likely to be subjected to 'cruel and needless pain.'
Harcourt has now launched a legal suit against the Alabama Department of Corrections, saying Hamm's treatment amounted to torture.
On Monday a medical examiner's report including new images of Hamm's injuries were filed which give an account of his suffering.
According to an interview with Hamm carried out by Dr Mark Heath, an anesthesiologist from New York, on the night of the execution he was taken into a chamber with around nine people inside and strapped down to a gurney.
Two men dressed in hospital scrubs then took a leg each and worked their way up attempting to find a vein.

Then tell me why we can't use a rope or firing squad any more? Let the inmate choose: rope or bullet.
Oh and PS God have Mercy on his soul.
Show us the pictures of his victims’ injuries.
Woodchipper.
There has never, ever, been a botched woodchipper execution.
Poor little bay bay
Bullets are cheaper and faster.
In Texas the Austin region has an abundance of multi-ton flat rocks. As a bonus, the rock then becomes the grave marker.
Firing squads would work.
Don’t paramedics go into the bone when they can’t find a vein?
How long have we been killing people? How is it that we have forgotten how? Lethal injection was supposed to be the new humanitarian answer. So do we abandon it altogether or return to what worked in the past?
They never had this problem with Yellow Mama...
Lethal injection does seem to verge upon cruel and unusual given this man’s circumstance. I’m sure there are other methods to carry out his sentence that would have been more effective and less like torture. Fumbling anaesthesiologists seem to manage to accidentally dispatch a number of innocent people, and I’m sure anesthesia isn’t painful. Just sic them on him.
I’ve never been “STABBED” by a needle!!!
Like hand him a sack of Quikrete and lower him into Fukushima Daiichi. How about satellite retrieval? Maybe strap some propellant on his back and redirect this Chinese junk out into space? Send him to Mars orbit as a one-man space radiation test subject - a 2-year extension on life? No brainer.
“Lead pellet injection”
There is no pain when the head is chopped off or the neck broken during a hanging or a rifle shot to the heart
If there’s enough insistence on “humane” (never minding the victim), then use a nitrogen tank/mask: noninvasive, condemned simply breathes 100% that of which the rest of us breathe 80%, dozes off, and doesn’t wake up. I don’t get this obsession with injecting chemicals when simply “filtered air” (removing O2) will do so cleanly & painlessly.
My only concern with “bullet or rope” is the result is messy and someone has to clean it up. Suppose we can leave that job to the next person in line for it.
Alabama legislature is deciding on Nitrogen execution.........................
Yea but that is too much. Look after seeing abortions on a daily basis..no just no. Rope or bullet.
