Its been awhile since billionaire Bill Gates had to grocery shop among us plebs, so youll forgive him if hes a little disconnected from the price of common items.
The Microsoft co-founder appeared on Ellen yesterday, where the daytime host had him guessing costs of supermarket sundries like Rice-a-Roni, pizza rolls and forbidden snack-du-jour Tide Pods.
SNIP
Gates pegged Rice-a-Roni at $5 (its $1). He thought a container of Tide Pods cost $4. Please, its $19.97. After guessing an exorbitantly high cost for Totinos Pizza Rolls, the audience took pity on him and pointed him to a more on-the-nose answer of $8 (theyre $8.98).

He’s even been out of that gig for ages too.
He’s useless—except for his money.
To be fair my husband isn’t a billionaire :-( and I can count on both hands the times he has shopped for groceries in 47 years.
10000 SF doesn’t even rate as a “cottage” for a billionaire.
I doubt he pays attention to many prices under $10 million....
Does he know the price of a Linux distribution?
I do the grocery shopping-but I buy/eat fresh, unprocessed food-so I have no idea what Rice-a-Roni, pizza rolls or any of that 0 nutritional content crap costs. I also prefer powdered laundry detergent-the pods don’t clean clothes nearly as well IMHO...
Well, there are not many 10,000 SF + homes on Hawaii...we’re talking about homes that go for $50 to $100 million.
Nancy Pelosi thought Rice-a-Roni was $15 a box... and that was after asking the host ‘what’s a rice-a-roni’...
Not saying that white liberal elites are ‘out of touch’ or anything...
I don’t know about that....He proudly wears $10 watches and sees no reason to spend any more than that. On the other hand, I go for class and distinction (up to $40). ;o)
Landing Charged per landing based on the maximum take-off weight
Noise Charged per landing during the day and per landing & take-off at night according to the noise level measured at Zurich Airport
Emission Charged per landing according to the amount of nitrogen oxide emissions
Aircraft parking Charged per parking procedure based on the maximum take-off weight and duration of time on the ground
Passenger Charged per outbound passenger. A distinction is made between local and transfer passengers
Security Charged per outbound passenger. A distinction is made between local and transfer passengers
and if you have to ask price of fuel, well............
I don’t know the cost of those either, and I am a single dad of 3 who does all the shopping.
And NOT a billionaire
That’s really TMI;
Even if I could afford the plane...
Source?
LOL.
I moved to the Seattle area 15 years ago.
The first time I shopped in my local QFC grocery store, I saw Bill Gates father.
And, yes, I like telling that story over and over again.
I’m sorry nick - it was a joke.
I should have put the “/s” at the end of the sentence. I also should have known when we’re dealing with ‘just crumbs Nancy’ that the joke would have been too easily believable...
My bad.
I could not guess the cost of most of those items. Ellen could give this test to most men in the country and they would fail. How much they are worth is not a factor.
To his credit, I’m no billionaire and shop on a regular basis and would still have gotten most of these as wrong as he did simply because I don’t shop for these particular items.
No, it’s okay. Never can tell these days.
Someone should ask hi how much he pays his janitors at work. Then ask about their retirement plans.
I seriously doubt that Ellen ever goes into a supermarket. She probably has a personal chef to do that for her and doesn’t care what the food costs.
The rich and famous are privileged, but put on a false persona that enables them to appeal to the average person.
