It took 20 years and a shootout, but Team USA finally beat Team Canada to take the Olympics gold medal in Womens Hockey late last night. However, for NBC, victory was not on the ice as the ratings for the second Wednesday of the PyeongChang games slide to their second worst result yet.

Boring...
The game was on at like 1 AM, wasn’t it?
PC ruins everything it touches.
Great game. Unfortunately, it was on at 11:30pm EST.
NBC turned people off early so there was no longer interest by the viewers.
What did NBC think would happen? Tomorrow night, the entire 1980 US mens hockey team could show up, (Brooks included) and it would still generate a big yawn.
NBC’s wounds are self inflicted and will carry over to every sports broadcast for the rest of the year. Time for advertisers to renegotiate fees. On the bright side, I don’t care.
In 2022 the same time zone problem is going to occur as the ChiComs host.
My family used to love the Winter Olympics. Not watching it. Don’t care. The cheating, drugs and lousy coverage killed it. It needs to die off.
Really, gold medal or no, people didn’t want to watch hockey being played at the level of good (but not great) 17/18 year old boys?
Shocking.
I remember when I was a kid and Dorothy Hammill was skating...everyone was talking about her. She was a bonafide superstar before she won gold. Afterward every boy my age had a crush and every girl got her haircut.
Mine too. We'd watch almost every minute as a family.
I love watching ladies hockey
Ratings and viewership. Could it be all the Olympians who stated that they were going to represent the USA but not its president that turned some people off?
Get Woke, Go Broke
NBC telegraphed early and often that they were going to take every opportunity to lecture the audience about SJW claptrap. Forewarned, I have not watched their broadcasts.
I don’t need NBC Sports. It is a whole big world out there with lots of fun things to do.
I turned on during the OT - stayed with it until the last 5 mins or so when even this non fan could see how well matched the two teams were. By then I was wondering how many OTs they would need etc. so I just bailed c. midnight here - MT.
Didn’t know about the shootout process but sounds like even that took several tries. To summarize, I have to think that time of day was big factor in ratings loss.
To each their own, but you’re clearly in the minority.
For one of the main reasons why, I refer you to my last post.
It started at 10:15PM Central Time.
I like a few of the events so I turned it on once to see what was on but they were talking about some queer ice skater, so I turned it back off.
Terrible coverage and too many events.
