Absolutely correct. I came in touch with them AFTER they got into computers. I worked for a language design company in the next block and started a local Boston area group on programming languages that I had meet at BBN. I focus on voice recognition because that’s what my girlfriend was expert in and when I retired from IBM Research, I made computer proposal videos for her. And it was her knowledge of phoneme research - tracking the movement of the tongue in the mouth - that we ended up using for the statistical investigation into the authorship of Night Before Christmas. Henry Livingston and NBC author share the same way they write tongue movements. Clement Moore doesn’t. So I always focus on BBN’s voice research. But you are absolutely right.
I think Q’s goal is to keep us informed and to help us to not lose heart. It has seemed that over the last 8-10 years that deep, overcoming evil is winning.
Q and friends are fighting the evil. Unlike some I think the horrible evil is tangible and intangible. I discount nothing.
