L.L. Bean's outdoor gear including its signature Bean Boots prized by campers and hipsters alike is no longer guaranteed for life.
In a letter to customers Friday morning, the company said it has updated its return policy to give customers one year to return purchases, with a receipt. The previous lifetime guarantee, which enabled customers to return products years or even decades after purchase, has long been a selling point for the company.

The quality of all the Bean stuff is way down. I still have Bean clothes from the 90s that I use.
Yep, that’s the type. LOL. They are the same type of idiot that think gas station operator’s clean up selling gasoline, or grocery stores aren’t running tight margins. They don’t understand business. They’ve never ran one, but feel compelled to regulate them, or deign to lecture everyone, whether in academia or the media, etc.
They really believe that *anyone* who has money, got it by being a crook. Period. Now I know a gas station owner that has become pretty wealthy but he’s been doing it for 40 years now, and works his ass off with 18 hour days. He puts on coveralls and is out there constantly. He isn’t making it on the gasoline itself.
Liberals have (some) right to be pissed off, except they never focus their rage where it belongs. The gas station owner makes a dime on a gallon of gas, the state and feds makes .50c, and they didn’t do anything to earn it. Guys like Alinsky and his ideological heirs are there to make sure the mob never figures out who their enemies really are. Liberals.
Great summary, there!
I remember people who would infest garage sales buying broken items purchased at Walmart. They would buy it for a few cents, then return it to the store for a full refund.
I have to confess that I kind of did that recently....for a $150 router. Went to Office Depot and bought one. Brought it home, hooked it up, got it dialed in, and everything was working great. I then threw away the box and the receipt. Trash ran the next morning. We got up and when I went in the office no internet. I bypassed the router and it worked. My brand new $150 router had quit. What to do? No box, no receipt. I looked at the manufacturers return policy. Too hard. So I went and bought another one, hooked it up, and put the broken one in the box with the receipt and took it back and told him it didnt work out of the box.
It was just the easiest solution.
Last I heard, All they give now is store credit IF you don’t have a receipt..............
The 100% return policy was just that.....an infinite guarantee.
Jerks. This is why we can't have nice things.
L.L. Bean does make good stuff. A few years ago, I had my locker at work broken into. There was a radio, and tools, and some other stuff. However, the only item stolen were my L.L. Bean duck boots. LOL.
Sad. I have some Duofold woolen long underwear made in Mohawk New York three or four decades ago. Wears like iron. Warm as toast. Very high quality, but this was the norm back in the day.
Impossible to find anything remotely close today, in comfort or quality. Not a matter of price, good stuff just isn't available.
Darn, and I just finished boxing to this canoe.
That’s the thing....in most cases you can’t buy quality, even if you want to pay.
The problem is that a lot of their stuff is crap and it’s not lasting.
We used to try to get their telephone service people to come work for us in Maine. The quality of those people started declining years ago. This doesn’t surprise me.
It was that way for decades.
I concur. L.L. Bean doesn’t lack integrity, too many customers were ripping them off.
So many bad things go back to the 60’s... I think you’re right... that’s where it started. Massive immigration from third world hellholes hasn’t helped either. Tucker had a statistic on his show tonight - something like 74% of immigrants from Mexico are on welfare.
And we’ve got Ron Paul and Rubio wanting to cut Social Security for Americans so we can support ‘immigrants’ on welfare for decades ... It’s crazy.
