A professor of religious studies at Michigan State University recently argued that white people who practice yoga are guilty of enjoying a system of power, privilege, and oppression.

“”And I can guarantee you that the old saying, “If they can’t make it in the real world, then they teach college” is applicable to this guy.””
Them that can, DO. Them that can’t, TEACH!
“”are guilty of enjoying a system of power, privilege, and oppression.””
Isn’t that a contradiction? I don’t get it. They enjoy their power and privilege and yet are oppressed?
During Christmas time and Christmas break, I was in a used clothing thrift store and some college girls, they were all of color in fact, but I said to a friend, look at these pants? They’d be good for Yoga practice and that caught all of their attention.
Anyway, not only is India a power in cricket, it’s really become their game, their Cricket league is the top league in the world.
If one doesn’t like yoga, go pilates, my 2 cents, stretching as in Yoga or Pilates has taken away back-pain and I’d say other little pains in the body though, yoga can be very challenging as a workout. A lot of those positions (standing half moon for example) are too much for me.
We must ask, in what ways are we complicit in a system that harms People of Color, queer and trans people, poor people, people with disabilities, and immigrants? Despite our best values and intentions as individuals, our actions (and inaction) are inherently connected with a system of power, privilege, and oppression.

What a poor opinion the author of this article has of “people of color, queers, the poor, the disable and immigrants” to think without my help they would never survive in the world. Or another way to look at it, me a 70 old white dude has any power over any of them.
Personally I believe the author is a racist of the worse sort. Judging an entire race of people and assigning all that is negative in the world to that race.
Yoga pants are one of those things FEW can pull off successfully, but unfortunately ALL who wear them think they look just marvelous. The wearing of spongebob PJ pants while shopping seems to be being replaced by yoga pants, and the people wearing them should be covered by a tent.
If you're white, you're wrong.
Or, following Animal Farm:
White skin bad. Brown skin good.
uhhh.....Yoga was invented by BROWN people, Professor.
I need to tell my yoga instructor sister in law. How strong is the stupid anymore............
I always wonder if these people know how stupid they sound...
I could, but I won’t....... Too easy.
NOW, they and we, are told they and we were merely trying to look brown.......and thats so racist!
I guess we non-Millennial folk can do nothing right (nor cool) in their eyes and we should just give up breathing, take a pill and exit the planet and give them our stuff!
My local convenience store had cricket on this AM,from South Africa. Very nice Indian people manage,or own,the store.
.
The good news is that I DON'T CARE. I've got my own problems. .

Very oppressive. She’s oppressing me so much I can’t stand up right now.
Hey, every time you do a downward dog, Kali smacks a tranny. Wait, that may not be entirely unmotivating.
I could, but I won’t....... Too easy.
I can kind of go with him on this. The yoga we do in America has so little to do with actual Hindu Yoga it is kind of a dick move to call it that.
