Orrin G. Hatch, the longest-serving Senate Republican, will announce that he will retire at the end of the year, clearing a path for Mitt Romney to run....
(Excerpt) Read more at nytimes.com ...
He’s put 40+ years in the senate and is 83 years old, he’s having health issues... trying to write conspiracy theories because the man has finally decided, he’s done enough just comes across as reaching.

1. You do not do so in an insulting manner. Rather, you praise him as a religious man with a distinguished public career; but quietly point out his failure to effectively oppose Obama, and the latter's eight year war against values sacred to most Utahans. Treat it simply as part of an understandable mellowing, which comes either with age or excessive politeness--or whatever.
2. You heap faint praise on him as an elder statesman, while attacking the Obaman legacy with all of the fire & vitriol that you carefully avoid in any direct reference to Romney. In other words, you showcase your superiority, while showing only deference to the weaker candidate.
You are awesome! have a great one.
NOT the a word.... a geezer...maybe...thought that a was just for millenials only!

What a useless POS he would be - prolly vote with the dems as often as not..
It was time for Hatch to retire. He’s been around since the 1970s.
Good analysis, but Romney’s Mormon claims make him undefeatable in UT.
Really? Mitt??
Willard is better?
......”clearing a path for Mitt Romney to run”.....
No!...He’s got a solid history of loosing for a reason!
I’ve heard many in Utah will vote for a Demorat before they’ll vote for Romney.
I agree IF Romney runs he wins it easily, but I am not convince Romney wants the job... This reads more of a trial balloon floated by lefties hoping to put a Moderate in Hatch’s seat than someone more conservative.... So this reads as someone trying to get Romney to run, not as though Romney plans to run.
As I stated earlier, Romney hasn’t held elected office in over 10 years, and last time he ran it was 2012 and it was for the Presidency. He lost, but still he reached the pinnacle of Republican Politics... is he really going to settle for being a Jr Senator from Utah and do grunt work so that one day he can maybe run for President again? Color me skeptical but I just don’t see it.... I really don’t see Romney chomping at the bit to be a Jr Senator from Utah after being the Nominee for President and a former Governor.....
I really don’t see Romney chomping at the bit to do that, I see this as folks on the left and maybe never trumpers trying to plant a seed to get Romney to run...
time will tell
Dear Utah citizens, Do you have anyone who is about 35 and Conservative who would love to replace Hatch?
understandable mellowing, which comes either with age or excessive politeness—or whatever.
LOL, That would be perfect. That reminds me of Reagans age comment., The youth and inexperience :-)
Classy but deadly.
I don’t see it your way. Romney has been an ugly player behind the scenes trying to discredit and torpedo Trump, who succeeded where Romney had failed.
It is clear he doesn’t want to be ignored or go away, so not surprising that he’s so eyeing the seat that he’d move back to Utah, part-time, for it.
I so agree. We need to have another candidate like maybe someone actually from Utah and not that idiot Evan McMullen or whatever his dumb name is.
