Longmire
Netflix ^

Posted on 12/31/2017 6:47:48 PM PST by Seruzawa

I just finished the last Longmire episode. It ended cleverly. I thought it was a decent series ruined by stupid things. For example they talk about guns being registered.... In Wyoming!

Then there's the town mayor threatening to fire the County Sheriff. Lol! There was a bunch of other dumb stuff of that sort like the lawsuit against the Sheriff with an adversarial judge. The case would have easily been tossed on appeal. Not to mention that all the jurors personally knew the Sheriff. I found it hard to believe that accusing a Sheriff of being bloodthirsty because he was thought to have shot an escaped murdering psychopath too over the top.

Stupid stuff like that made the show a trial from time to time. Still it was pretty good and I'd recommend it.

Oh yeah, I luv Longmire. Great show, although this final season is a little grating. Only on Ep 3, so the spoilers I just read ... eh, what are ya gonna do??

I really enjoy the chemistry between Hank and Henry, and dang if they aren’t 2 of the best looking men on the whole planet....

I like the Native American themes, the Western, rugged themes, I love his Bronco. The holes in the plots don’t bother me.

It was one of the best shows on recent TV, A&E cancelled it because the viewers were too old, even though it was a top rated show for them. So Netflix picked it up, yay for them!

In one episode a few years back - the one with the Japanese interment camp man? - they had a scene with Hank’s Bronco parked next to the Japanese man’s Cressida and I took pictures of it - my two best cars ever were one of each of these. :)

But yes, great show. I started Ozark and liked it but haven’t gone back to it yet.

Mozart in The Jungle is awesome.

The Grand Tour is wonderful.

Happy New Year’s FRiends <3

PS: Hank, aka Robert Taylor, played in a BBC show called Ballykissangel from 96-01. We watched that on PBS.

It was about a little Irish town, he played a priest, it was pretty good if you like that sort of thing.

I watched the whole series. I really enjoyed it. Both Walt and Vic tried to be honest. Walt to a fault. That was refreshing to see honesty in a character. I didn't worry about everything being correct. It was entertainment and a lot more correct than most shows. I liked Walt and Vic getting together at the end. It was a warm feeling ending. It was fun to get to know the characters. The characters were almost like close friends to me towards the end of the series. Henry Standing Bear was good too. Liked how he ended up. The concept of Hector and the American Indians in their own community was interesting.

I liked it, but with the same qualifications that you had, and one more: at times, Longmire was more cozy than realistic. The regular characters were mostly likable, or at least flawed in ways that made them comprehensible. Also missing was that a lot of what even rural law enforcement has to deal with is the simple rottenness of people, with the greatest energy and violence coming from juvenile and young adult criminals headed for prison.

I thought it was a good show up through the first year in Netflix. It seemed to me to get a little soapish after that.

Never seen the show.
Turned off the TV in '08.
That being said...

Katee Sackhoff is HAWT!

The first episode of that show turned me off, big time. Basically a politician had to screw a pig, live, on TV, or a girl would be killed. So he did it, and he hated himself for doing it, and so did his wife.
Flipping disgusting.

Thank you for posting about this. I would say we enjoyed the series in a very “lowered expectations” sort of way. I completely agree with the complaints especially about the bad writing. I did not see any bad acting really; all of the “bad acting” that we are talking about is actually bad writing, ie. poor dialogue, and plot tropes that give the actors no room for any artistic expression.

SPOILER ALERT!

The actors cannot fix the script. I felt like Robert Taylor did his job well especially in those episodes in which the writers completely misunderstood his character eg. Walt has a temper tantrum and tears up his office. This is the same person who hung from hooks on his chest?? Watch Taylor’s eyes as he does this. Does he show a hint that he knows that this would never happen?

Katee Sackoff had the hardest job, when Baldwin and Coveny turned Vic Moretti into a pitiful incompetent child. I guess so that they could create some reason for Walt to become protective of her and then fall in “love” with her. I don’t think she pulled it off really. But she did all she could do with the sophomoric dialogue she was given. I respect what she tried to do.

Lucien Conolly having a shootout with Walt? Oh brother, give me a break. Was this written by the Junior Varsity team? But Peter Weller steals the screen in every shot. He and Taylor do all they can do to pull it off, and it works, almost... sort of...if you squint your eyes....

Jacob Nighthorse just walks away and gives the casino away for no reason? Did he die and I missed it? But A Martinez does an excellent job with this. The silly writers think that the characters must grow right? Which means they change right? But they do not become completely different individuals wearing the previous individuals clothes! Martinez understands that he is to go out now as a completely sympathetic character and he plays it as it is written as though he has never heard of anyone named Jacob Nighthorse.

Proper character growth was written into the Ferg subplot. Good ideas, and very well played. You should watch just for that.

I did say that Wifey and I and our three grown kids enjoyed this last season though. “But you thought the writing was terrible! you say?” Yes, but plenty else on TV was worse.

I can’t say enough how amazing DareDevil on Netflix is. It’s Marvel Universe: Street Level, and it is phenomenal all the way around.

After it went to Netflix, I knew they would ruin it. Why can’t they hire some real Officers as technical advisors so they can get at least one show right?

I loved it! I finished watching it a couple of months ago and I wish I could find something else to binge watch that is as good. I hate that it ended.

I really enjoyed the show. Let’s face it, the sheriff is the perfect man, the Marlboro Man grown old.

It jumped the shark occasionally but I was willing to suspend judgment because I wanted to find out what happened next.

The baby issue confused me though. I didn’t see any time that the deputy had slept with the sheriff, or even the implication.

I really enjoyed “Life” on Netflix.

Also liked Blue Bloods.

House of Cards had an excellent first three seasons.

and my favorite was of course, Last Man Standing.

I think I am on season four, between Agatha Christie, PD James and the Midsomer Murders, I think that Great Britain is positively dripping in blood.

I do find that the murders become more graphic as the seasons progress. I suspect that is a function of all these gory police procedurals. I prefer to be a step or two removed from the gruesome body.
