This marks a significant acceleration in production for the electric car company.
Tesla has been hyping its Model 3 vehicles since they were announced in 2014. The car was designed to be an affordable all-electric sedan, but despite receiving approximately half a million pre-orders the company has so far only delivered a few hundred units. However, that might be about to change: Electrek is reporting that hundreds of new Model 3s have been leaving the Tesla factory over the past few days.
Electrek published drone video footage yesterday of a parking lot at the Tesla factory in Fremont full of Model 3s being loaded onto trucks. This comes after footage last week of the that same factory with an estimated 500 Model 3s in the same parking lot. Its unclear whether the footage published yesterday features the same cars as the video published a week ago, or if these are new cars.
Either way, this represents a significant acceleration in Teslas Model 3 production. The company only delivered 712 Model 3s total by November, and according to these videos the company stands to nearly double that number in December.
This means that Tesla might be on track to meet its 2018 goal of 5,000 vehicles per week by March 2018. If thats the case, people might not have to wait as long for their cars as they thought.
Am I detecting some Musk Derangement Syndrome?
Interesting thing about Henry Ford. People give him credit for the assembly line, but he came up with the idea after watching a butcher’s assembly line cutting up pigs!
I’ve seen 2 of them around Raleigh. Kind of ugly, IMHO. Reminds me a little of Walter White’s car.
I’m all for free choice, as long as there are no government subsidies. If someone wants to buy an electric car, let them. The cars will stand on their own merit in the marketplace.
I’ve seen a few in posh neighborhoods in larger cities but none on the open road. Never park next to one in case it catches on fire.
Here’s the Facebook page logging this cross country trip. It has pictures of people showing up to see the car and test drive it. This is free publicity for Tesla even if it isn’t all good:

Here’s a blog post about someone who got to test drive the cross country car:

And an excerpt:
If history is any example, Tesla will ultimately succeed in smoothing out the roughest of the wrinkles, but it really needs to push hard to improve quality and customer experience even at this early stage. Actually, earlier. Its not acceptable for a car to have as many issues as the Tesla Model 3 Road Trip vehicle has had. (Other owners with even more miles on their Model 3s have said they arent experiencing any issues, so at least it seems the cars arent uniformly problematic.)
Still, a lot of customers may be willing to forgive small imperfections in panel gaps or other annoyances if the overall experience is as satisfying as nailing the accelerator. Thats because Tesla isnt just hawking cars. Its selling the opportunity to participate in a technical revolution that will see transportation move from fossil fuels to a better, cleaner alternative. Until the traditional manufacturers catch up, theres lots of value there. The challenge is in balancing speed of innovation with quality.
I see them in the doctor’s parking spaces over at the hospital near me.
The nice thing about an electrical outlet is you can put it just about anywhere and most people already have them in their garage. Try doing that with a gas pump.
Does the TimCook-Apple-IPhone software control the Tesla battery performance??
Shoot, with a 100 foot cord, were all set!!!!
Has anyone marketed a tow behind trailer with a fossil fueled generator so in theory you could drive cross country?
That would almost be funny if the cars had no batteries.
Yeah, well, read / watch this.
Makes the mid 70s GM quality control look magnificent.
My first “new” car was a 76 Le Mans, jeez, what a piece of garbage. I’m betting it beats these Teslas out.
MAGA! Thank President Trump for this sudden increase in production.
Is it MDS to believe he survives on government funding?
Hundreds I say! Hundreds!
The earth is saved!
The car was designed to be an “affordable” all-electric sedan ...
well-equiped 2017 Model S MSRP $86,000 ...
