In a little over a decade the world could be plunged into a 'mini ice age', scientists have warned.
Temperatures will start dropping in 2021, according to a mathematical model of the Sun's magnetic energy.
This, they say, will lead to a phenomenon known as the 'Maunder minimum' - which has previously been known as a mini ice age when it hit between 1646 and 1715, even causing London's River Thames to freeze over.
The study says that between 2020 and 2030 solar cycles will cancel each other out.
The model of the Sun's solar cycle is producing unprecedentedly accurate predictions of irregularities within the Sun's 11-year heartbeat.
It draws on dynamo effects in two layers of the Sun, one close to the surface and one deep within its convection zone.
Researchers, led by maths professor Valentina Zharkova at Northumbria University, built up on previous research that predicts magnetic waves produced by the sun.
However, she has warned her model could not be used as proof of a mini ice age - in part because of global warming.

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. The water that backs up behind the dam can leak into a home and cause damage to walls, ceilings, insulation, and other areas.
The gutters along our roof were completely blocked with ice.
My husband had some wiring put on the outside of the roof to prevent dams-——not sure of the details on that.

Thanks. We don’t get many freezes here and they generally don’t last longer than three or four days.
Now where did I put my obsidian flaked arrowheads?
Excess heat leaking into an attic space warms the roof sufficient to melt snow or ice. The outer edge of the roof remains cold and melt water progressively freezes along the edge. This results in a pool of water backing up under the shingles and asphalt paper, finally pouring through the plywood sheathing layer. Water then damages the structure and materials beneath.
BURN, baby...BURN!!! (coal, that is).

Have the Seas receded yet? I want to take a stroll to Catalina Island. Well, maybe when the Pacific Ocean freezes over.
Its been years since I lived in Minnesota. My old man had tons of insulation in the attic and got rid of the gutters - so I forgot about those ice dams on the roofs.
I thought of the ice flowing in off Lake Mille Lacs in Minnesota:

“... Ozone Hole...”
Yeah, I can’t talk about Ozonehole either... glad he’s not the _resident anymore, though...

Exactly. .................
...and give up your rights too, because THAT will surely stop the [ insert imminent made-up cause du jour ] from happening and save the [ insert grievance / oppressed / victim of the evil white man du jour ] from being aggrieved, oppressed, victims.
Every week, it's something different from these leftist assclowns.
Laugh in their faces and watch them rage.
For most of Earths history, there have been no ice caps at all...

So? It only takes one Ice Cap to ruin an otherwise perfect day ... The point is that we are LEAVING an historically warm period and moving into a cold period.
Hope you have several thousand years of heating supplies handy!
I was out at lunchtime in Concord and it was like those movies of people dying on Mount Everest.
Remember when they said, “our children will never know snow”?
