Is Anyone Else Alone on Christmas Eve?
Skooz's Den | 12/24/2017 | Skooz

Posted on 12/24/2017 4:09:28 PM PST by Skooz

In what has become an annual, Christmas Eve tradition of sorts, I wonder if anyone else out there is spending your Christmas Eve solo.

I suppose we're never really alone if we have FR and the wonderful people who make up the membership here.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

It’s just me and my Rat Terrier, Casey.

Blessedly I am. ... Took me many a year to make sure of that.

Well, other than a wandering cat that has started spending evenings with me.

My oldest son who lives about 90 miles away, came in yesterday afternoon. I baked cookies during the week, and also cooked our Christmas dinner prior to his arrival. We ate yesterday afternoon, then went to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which was awful. This morning we got up, went for breakfast at Denny's, then he came with me to visit long-time family friends he hadn't seen in ages. He left for home from there about 1 p.m. this afternoon. I've been home since then, catching up on some Netflix programs. I'm going back to visit the same friends I saw today. Their daughters are home with their kids, and they invited me to come for dinner. I enjoy my solitude and privacy, and would be just as happy staying in tomorrow as we're getting lake effect snow, and wind advisory for tonight, and more snow tomorrow.

Merry Christmas!!

Skooz, been there and a lot of times it was self imposed—and I regret that. If you are feeling lonely, every city has churches with wonderful Christmas Eve programs (just a suggestion). Or pick up the phone and start calling people. I know Breitbart is doing a live show on Sirius tonight too.
I hope you are feeling the Christmas spirit—this is the most incredible night in history and you arent alone, God is with you always. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

By choice YES.

I have some common sense, don’t want to be around ‘family’ because ‘she’ is there and I have the decency to not want to ruin everyones Christmas.

My cats and I will ring tomorrow in - OH, that is next week.

Anyway, I wasn’t much of a celebrant when it was a sociable responsibility so doesn’t matter now.

Besides ‘they’ have commercialized it so bad I can’t even ‘stand’ the season any more.

I guess if truth were to be known, I would probably be a devotee of Festivus.

And still give praise to the Birth of Christ.

To you and all the others on Free Republic:

My wife and I want you to know you are not alone. You are in our thoughts, but more importantly, God is only a prayer away. God has also richly blessed us with a president we could have only dreamed of having. He won by 107,000 votes for the complete Electoral College win he got. 108,000 fewer votes, or 54,000 votes swinging to Clinton, would have brought us Hillary Clinton for eight years.

We have new conservative judges and a tax plan Reagan would have wanted. The economy will bloom and more people will be gainfully employed. The Establishment is suffering repeated blows and the MSM is looking stupid to the world.

This is a Christmas for each of us to praise God and to be glad we saw the beginning of a true blessing on this nation’s people.

I’ll be alone until my shift ends at 10:00 pm. I’m the only soul in a giant factory as I’m the security guy. I’ve listened to some Christmas Carols and read a bit of news on FR. Of course I check the banks of security cameras too.

You've got the job my dad had for 20 years. Of course, now he celebrates Christmas in heaven. :-)

Just got back from mom’s house. She cooked the ham we are all having tomorrow. I kicked in potatoe salad, vegetables, store bought rolls.
The boys will be here tomorrow to eat.
Mom will get here around 10:00, the boys around noon.

Just me now.
Sitting on the porch enjoying a pipe and remembering Christmas as it used to be.

Solo here, mostly by choice. Will binge watch some Netflix or Tivo-ed programs.

Supposed to do the family dinner tomorrow at Brother’s, assuming there are not any health situations.

All of the family are mid-30s and up through retirement age, with no little ones.

Merry Christmas.

Tamiflu does wonders. You will be okay in little time, as long as you caught it early.

At midnight, I’ll watch the Christmas Mass from the basilica in D.C. Then I’ll give my two cats their special treat, a large can of Bumble Bee white albacore tuna!

"If your job is at a 365/24/7 site, you get used to juggling time off so everyone gets inconvenienced a little. Don’t feel sorry for me, though. I get a higher hourly pay rate and it helps pay my bills."

Did that for 25 years. Preferred working the holidays as none of the brass was around. We also had the option of swapping days off with other staff members throughout the year, which made it very easy for people to get extra time off. A lot of the guys I worked with were hunters, and wanted that extra time during hunting season. There was a time that I'd work 40+ hours in 2 1/2 days. I swapped with another Sergeant, and we both had weekends off. I'd work double shifts (my own and his) on Monday and Tuesday, then work my regular 3-11 shift on Wednesday. Then he'd work his regular shift (7-3) on Wednesday, and then do double shifts on Thursday and Friday to cover for me. We both ended up with 4 days in a row off every week. Wouldn't be able to handle it at my age now though.

You’re very kind. Thank you.
I am, indeed, feeling the Christmas spirit.

I’ve grown used to solitude on Christmas Eve. I spend all Christmas day with family, so it’s ok.
