Watercutter thumbs her nose at "the so-called alt-right" who resent the diverse cast, and also at "the misogynist, racist, classist, dark side of the populace thats always been present, wielding power in one form or another." In case you don't get the hint, that "dark side of the populace" is Donald Trump voters: "The movie isn't here to Make the Galaxy Great Again," she sneers.

The die-hards in my family are refusing to see this mess.
Well, all I can say is nobody I know bashed the movie for that reason.
Heard a number of reasons from the purists but not that one.
The Last Jedi allows us to view a dark world where screen writers have the intelligence of 6 year olds..
Didn’t plan on seeing it anyway.
Some people just can’t separate politics from anything under the sun. Good grief.
What irritates me is how Leia skipped over being a Jedi and became a Green Lantern instead, hurtling through space in a shirtsleeve EVA, with only the Force to protect her..
I like the product, and so does my wife, which is why we have been watching so much. The color of the leads is not that important, but the nice part is the lack of visible tattoos and body-piercings. I suppose if they make a movie where one of the leads is a carnival ride operator, that could change. But still. Both of Hallmark channels are running movies that look like they were made in America, and there is no CGI.
I heard it’s just an SJW infomercial.
Princess Leia has a “girlfriend,” of course.
I hated all the Star Wars movies anyway, so it’s no loss to me.
How many of the good guys are white males?
Wired used to be a pretty good magazine.
But I stopped reading it years ago. It’s all Global Warming, Political Correctness, and Progressivism now. It’s hard to call it a technology magazine anymore.
This is a pathetic attempt to label anyone who disliked the movie as a racist, bigot, etc.
These oh-so-awake, prissy, self adulating, prima donna moralists are simply stupid and arrogant. Laugh at them; then, pity them. Nasty children deserve our pity.
Why so many humans in the universe for different creatures?
Heck for that matter how is it that about a dozen people and two robots across three generations are at the center of all turmoil in the universe?
Sounds like she’s the Silver surfer.
Didn’t know this was going to be another beach party movie.
I think it’s kinda funny just how many of the heroes are women. It’s like turning a pickup into a formula 1 racer. Sure, you might be able to do it, but you’re starting with the wrong foundation, and you’ll get stomped pretty much always.
i.e. you’re doing it the hard way. That is not how it’s done.
It certainly does not reflect reality.
If someone from another planet came here and watched our movies and television, they would think that:
1. Women are tougher than men.
2. Most US presidents are either black or female.
3. Everybody uses Apple computers.
It’s interesting. I saw the first SW 26 times in the theater. It was amazing to me. I’ve really lost interest in the franchise. The later movies are better than any of the prequels, but the bar was pretty low.
I do enjoy the story in Rogue 1, and LOVE the ending, seamlessly tying into the very beginning of the movie that started it all.
But nowadays I’m pretty old. I have better things to do.
How many of the bad guys are of color or female?
I’ve never watched the Hallmark channel. You make it sound very attractive.
They tried that same crap with the all-women "Ghostbusters" remake.
Wired is owned by Condé Nast, which is owned by Advance Publications.
That should explain a lot.
