As a Steeler fan who just endured that game:
I only have one thing to say about the ending of that game:
As I understand the rule of a “pass catch” it is when a player 1. --- takes possession of the thrown ball , THEN 2. ---- makes what they call “a football move”. That is what determines a catch. 1 and 2.
(This rule I believe was first employed just a few years ago concerning a catch and a subsequent fumble. A catch was determined a catch if the receiver took control of the ball and then made “a football move” before he may fumble it when hit.) --- a pretty crappy rule no matter what.
Well……….. our Steeler player definitely 1. -- caught that ball and had complete control over it, then 2. --- reached out (IN “A FOOTBALL MOVE”)…… never having been touched by the other team (not that that is at all relevant) …….he reached over the goal line and as the ball was in his grasp the ball hit the ground slightly but the ball was still in his grasp.
That is a CERTAIN CATCH AND TOUCHDOWN because he took control of the ball then (reached over the goal line—“a football move”) with the ball and kept control never having been touched by the opponent. Touchdown.
1.--- It was a completed pass THEN 2. --- he made “a football move” reaching into the end zone -- that term is in the rule book. He landed in the end zone keeping control of the ball AFTER THE CATCH AND “THE FOOTBALL MOVE”. (Even if he “bobbled” the ball slightly, he had made a catch AND made that required "football move" as he reached over the goal line. ) Total horsesh*t call.
If the NFL had any balls (that aren’t deflated), they would admit they made a HUGE MISTAKE for the owner of the Patriots, Robert Kraft.

The Steelers outplayed those New England characters most of the night, except for that beastly tight end of theirs.
Well……… we’ll see them later this year, and I don’t care where that game will be played, we may have Antonio Brown back for the entire game then.
The Patriots are going down the next time, no matter where it is played. (jmo)

Situation: less than a minute left to play between NE Pats & Seattle Seahawks, the winner wins the SUPERBOWL.
Seattle had the ball on 1 yard line of Patriots. It was 2nd down play. Seattle has 1 more timeout coming. Marshawn Lynch was having a great day bulldozing through Patriot defense. If he bulldozes through 1 yard, it is 6 points and Seattle wins 2nd Superbowl. So what do the Seahawks idiot coach calls for? To throw the ball!
I can only guess coach did not want Lynch to get all the glory. Pats intercept the throw and game is over!

Of course, people can post whatever they want. They can't make the rules about how people respond to their posts, however. (There is no way I'm going to read and respond to your lengthy cut and paste even it's possible it has merit. I am more interested in other things.)

The ball was clearly jarred loose when his elbow hit the ground. Therefore an incomplete pass.
That said...the ball should have been spotted at the 1 yard line to reflect the completed pass.
Had the pass actually been completed, since the receiver was never touched by a defender and therefore never 'down by contact', he was still eligible to move the ball and it would have been a touchdown even if he slid into the end zone on his tonsils. As long as he retained complete possession of the ball throughout.

my father was shot and my uncle killed fighting for the US and freedom for us and allies. Every week these players disrespect the sacrifice my family made by disrespecting the national anthem. The thought of giving them attention or money repulses me and the thought that someone else would do it is unconscionable.
IIRC, soon as he crosses the plane = touchdown = play over.

Nice way to rewrite the play...sorry, the ball was NOT in his grasp...watch the replay, his left hand was not in the grasp and the ball bounced off the ground. That means he lost control. Instead of yelling at the officials maybe you should be yelling at your tight end for worrying more about scraping his elbows than holding onto the ball.

When is the NFL going to hold the refs accountable? Either with heavy fines, terminations, or suspensions? Nobody has an answer. Everyone talks around the issue (but me). Screaming “they wuz robbed” solves nothing. For starters, the refs should be forced to hold post-game pressers during which they have to defend each and every bad call.
And maybe you should be more mad at your head coach for being the idiot gambler he is instead of taking the time to run a set play. They has the tying field goal in hand and your head coach blew it!!
And more to the point, the ball came loose in the process. The ball can touch the ground as long as the receiver has full control throughout.
