Autism spectrum disorder has no single known cause. Given the complexity of the disorder, and the fact that symptoms and severity vary, there are probably many causes. Both genetics and environment may play a role.
Genetics. Several different genes appear to be involved in autism spectrum disorder. For some children, autism spectrum disorder can be associated with a genetic disorder, such as Rett syndrome or fragile X syndrome. For other children, genetic changes (mutations) may increase the risk of autism spectrum disorder. Still other genes may affect brain development or the way that brain cells communicate, or they may determine the severity of symptoms. Some genetic mutations seem to be inherited, while others occur spontaneously. Environmental factors. Researchers are currently exploring whether factors such as viral infections, medications or complications during pregnancy, or air pollutants play a role in triggering autism spectrum disorder.

Maybe.
It may be the case that extremely high IQ people have variants of genes that also affect behavior (like autism). So the high IQ people might have a fortuitous mixture of certain gene variants, and their children could have a sub-optimal mix of the same gene variants.
As an example, if certain genes that affect the nervous system in a normal population are AABbccDdEE, and a super intelligent person has the genes AabbCCddEe, another person could have aabbCcddEe and be autistic. This would all occur because of the way genes interact with each other.
Not sure if I'm communicating the idea I want to express very well at all here...
Sad but true: First World problem.
“Man’s inhumanity to man.” Grown-ups inhumanity to children.
Not that I know of.
I have not looked at the studies supporting the FDA approval of the various depression drugs, so I do not know whether they have been tested in pregnant subjects (even pregnant rats).
In an intuitive way, it would make sense that these drugs could have an effect on the developing brain. They certainly have the ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. But whether they would interact with growth factors or DNA or some other physiological component that would affect brain growth--I just do not know.
I do know, however, that autism existed long before any psychoactive drugs were invented.
I get the general gist of it.
There are people with immune system disorders who are adversely affected by vaccines--usually attenuated virus vaccines. Those disorders are often genetic, but can also be caused by infections.
Third-world problem, too. Many poor populations have a high incidence of folk-remedy contraception and abortion.
Indeed, some lawyers are certainly like that.
I've never testified as an expert witness in a case, and never will. A few years ago, I kept getting emails from Reuters asking me to be an expert consultant on scientific stories. I wouldn't do that, either.
Not all lawyers are money-grubbing shysters. I met a lawyer at a conference recently whom I may have to consult for guidance, regarding human subject research. In the context where lawyers guide you through a legal mess so that you can do the right thing, their help is invaluable.
I doubt the boys will remember that, even subconsciously. All young mammals undergo brain remodeling such that they retain no memories from infancy. Humans rarely have memories before about age three or four (IIRC).
This “relabelling” of every personality that is a odd or dysfunctional as “autism” is a big part of this. It is used by parents and schools as a justification for being unable to reach a particularly difficult child. And it fuels financial interests that have sprung up to assist. The same thing of course happened with ADHD, where every wild boy not interested or able to focus in school was labelled as having a medical condition, which conveniently has a pharmaceutical solution that creates profits for industry and makes life easier for schools. Obviously, there are plenty of children with “real” autism and ADHD and they certainly need medical intervention. But the new, current problem is really in the momentum that accretes around legitimate diagnoses and sucks in all the kids on the margins and beyond. We live in a very weird world. Maybe the weird kids are the normal ones, IDK. But personally I do not think autism or ADHD are, as strictly medical phenomena, more widespread than previously.
Love ya Mom, but you are always so full of yourself that I just feel obligated to point out the errors you make.
I know that you are trying to be clever (or something) here, but the fact is that I've been posting on FR for about 17 years now. People actually do recognize my expertise. What you cannot possibly know is that they PM me sometimes specifically because of that expertise. If their physician can't explain what's going on, they know they can ask me and I'll explain in terms that they understand. So cut out the attempt to be sarcastic, I doubt you'll get anywhere with it.
Was there some reason that you left out toxoid vaccines which protect against the toxins made by the pathogen and do not contain the pathogen itself (killed or attenuated) or proteins extracted from the pathogen?
You should have probably looked up the definition of "toxoid" before posting that. A toxoid is a detoxified toxin extracted from a pathogen. A toxin is a poisonous protein. Toxins can be extracted directly from the pathogen and deactivated (e.g. diphtheria toxin) or they can be genetically modified to be non-toxic and grown in an organism like E. coli. And I very specifically was not trying to cover every vaccine type, but to convey an idea of what vaccines are to an audience that is not scientists.
Not true in the case of shingles. Children vaccinated against chickenpox have an increased risk of shingles as adults. One of many cases where having (and surviving) a childhood disease leads to a more informed immune system.
Utter nonsense. If the chickenpox vaccine caused an increased risk of shingles, then shingles should have been exceedingly rare prior to the vaccine, and people who've had chickenpox wouldn't have to worry. The vast majority of shingles cases occur in people like me, who had to suffer chickenpox because there was no vaccine for it when I was a kid. If you have had chickenpox, you have the virus in your body--it never goes away. The vaccine has not been used for long enough to make any kind of determination on its effect on the incidence of shingles, but researchers expect to see a drop in the incidence of shingles as the vaccinated population ages.
Or how about the ability of tetanus immunizations to cause Antiphospholipid Syndrome?
So, "antiphospholipid syndrome" is a synonym for tetanus now? Somehow, I don't think so.
Barring manufacturing errors (which have happened), a vaccine is utterly incapable of causing the disease it is meant to prevent.
"In addition, the toxins from pathogens are detoxified when made into vaccines, so they do not and cannot have the same effect on the body that the actual pathogen has."
No Mom, the attenuated viruses produce less of their toxins but that does not mean they are "detoxified" as some of the toxins are still produced.
Ah, here I see that your problem with reading comprehension (which you have already amply demonstrated) runs into your lack of scientific knowledge, with disastrous result.
The toxins from pathogens are exactly that: toxins which have been extracted from pathogens and rendered non-toxic using biochemical methods. This is completely unrelated to the process used to make attenuated vaccines.
Sorry, I'm not even going to bother with that illogical and unscientific mess that is your "discussion" of the role of adjuvants. I see that in another post that you linked to mercola.com--which is as egregious a pseudoscience website as any. I've suspected for a while that you are an aficionado of pseudoscience, and now you have provided the proof.
What does your comment refer to?
What business is this conversation of yours?
No, the liver actually detoxifies with glucuronidation to increase water solubility.
No legal training. Chemist and bioscientist for a few decades.
Here’s an example of common knowledge, if one is facing north west is on your left. No need for a citation to convince most people since it is common knowledge.
None of those. I feel the memory stored in the soul around the physical body.
stanne is a kook. I held back with her, on the off-chance that she is actually disabled.
Thank you. Finally! This whole thread has turned into whoo whoo wackadoodle bs. Here, let me connect with you and release your soul from you past abandonment in the womb, rme ;)
Agree. In times past there were a myriad of diseases that simply went undiagnosed. People simply learned to live with them, or not.
