The first reactions to Star Wars: The Last Jedi have landed (No Spoilers)

It "might be the best Star Wars movie ever."

A long time ago in a galaxy, far, far....actually, slash a lightsaber through that sentence because audiences don't have to wait long to see the next Star Wars adventure. Yes, that's right. The wait is almost over.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is nearly upon us as Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, Breaking Bad) has the unenviable task of topping the box-office behemoth that was The Force Awakens. The fact that Johnson has already been given the responsibility to create a brand new trilogy is a very good sign, but what about the next installment of the world's most beloved saga?

As for the plot, here's what we're being told: "Having taken her first steps into the Jedi world, Rey joins Luke Skywalker on an adventure with Leia, Finn, and Poe that unlocks mysteries of the Force and secrets of the past."

While the official reviews are embargoed, a few journalists shared their spoiler-free opinions on Twitter and it's fair to say that The Last Jedi is shaping up to be an absolute triumph.

In fact, one journalist even remarked that it "might be the best Star Wars movie ever." Considering the brilliance of The Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope, that's high praise indeed.

Do you want to hear some better news?

It's also the longest film in Star Wars history. We think it's fair to say that the Force is strong with this one.

In fact, one journalist even remarked that it "might be the best Star Wars movie ever."

He and his family are now at Disney World enjoying their free vacation.

I first saw Star Wars when the special edition hit the theaters in 1997, I knew Vader was his father but that's all, I was 13 or 14 and I walked out in love with it. This isn't nostalgia talking, the originals are objectively better than their cash cow prequels and sequels.

If Phantom Menace had been the first one I never would have seen the 2nd.

Episode 7's plot was a near-total rehash of episode 4, only with a big downgrade in the Vader position and even though "Star Killer Base" was more powerful than the Death Star if seemed like crappy Chinese-made imitation and the space battle was boring as hell. The stuff they say happened between 6 and 7 (requiring them to retcon dozens of novels and such) sounds pretty stupid.

I don't see how this one can escape having something original (please Disney don't prove me wrong) in it and I hope it's good but if it's great I'll eat my hat. And if it's "the best" I'll eat everybody's hat.

Well, to be fair, here is Ronald Reagan's real life biological son:

The 4th movie was so bad and boring I completely stopped even thinking about the franchise...its just gee whiz cgi with bowery boys plots...pure “b” movie melodrama. A horrible and tragic waste of time for all involved...fans and the pros putting out that slop...

Hey look, advertising posing as a review. They pulled the same trick with the last star wars movie.

“(what is Driver’s world view?)”

Well, he did indicate he is not fond of the Rebel Alliance and implicitly compared them to al Qaida (can’t say I blame him, considering he joined the Marines due to 9/11. All I can say is that he’s definitely going to be furious when he learns the Rebels are derived from the Vietcong.). In other words, he’s comparable to Kylo Ren regarding his being pro-Imperial, although I’d assume he’s more level-headed.

So far as this movie, it better not be a rehash of Empire Strikes Back. I wasn’t fond of TFA being an ANH rehash [in fact, to call that movie a “rehash” is a massive understatement. Return to the Sea, despite retreading The Little Mermaid’s plotline, had far more of a truly original plotline than TFA did], and since we’ve got Episode IX being helmed by JJ Abrams again, I know that one is inevitably going to be a ROTJ rehash. The last thing I want is an ESB rehash to go with the trilogy. I’m not going to go see it, even ignoring the Disney boycott I’m doing anyway, unless I am absolutely sure it’s a good film and doesn’t rehash the original trilogy.

Really? He looked like the Stuart Smalley of villains. They even felt the need to have the “I’m mean, I’m evil and gosh darn it, people are afraid of me!” Scene.

He is just a loser on the scale of someone who shoots up a church or theater.

I’ll wait for it come to On-Demand.

Just kind of burned out on the whole Star Wars thing, actually.

That’s what I did for the last one. I thought Daisy Ridley was hot, but the rest of the film was a hot mess (aside from the brief bit of Harrison Ford), and thought Carrie Fisher notably didn’t look well, and the forgettable villain son.

Both of Nancy’s deliveries are, to be extremely charitable, lacking.

Even funnier now after Spacey and Dreyfus allegations.

Is Spacey a creep ? Sure. Is he a damn good actor ? Absolutely. We don’t watch most of these actors for their high moral standards (and a lot of the old-time actors were reprobates, too, but they had a studio system and cooperative press to cover for them). I re-watched Spacey the other day in “Glengarry Glen Ross.” Everybody in it was excellent and our favorite cretin Alec Baldwin delivered the best performance “Coffee is for closers !” of his career (and should’ve gotten an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor). I judge them on their work.

Yes, but, when they’re accused or convicted of a crime(s) that 100% effects how I view their performances.

For example, I can’t watch a “Naked Gun” movie and laugh at/with OJ anymore. Nope.

I see Spacey, I think “gay pedo rapist”. I can’t watch him portraying lady loving Jack Vincennes seriously anymore. Therefore, it does ruin the movie for me.

Winona Rider shoplifting a purse? Yeah, whatever. Idiot. Doesn’t effect me watching her (not that I do). But, kill/rape/other serious crime? Different story.

Yeah. Yeah. That SNL clip alone shows his chops.

He probably did a great job as J. Paul Getty, I wonder if footage will ever leak out. Maybe he and the dad from 7th Heaven can have a webseries together down the road.

And I wonder why they haven’t reshot Jeffrey Tambor’s scenes from that Stalin movie with Richard Riehle or somebody.

I respect that. Though I’m of a mind with DJ.

I would kill to see OJ’s “Frogman” tv series pilot, made just before the murders.

Just depends on your tolerance for the individuals. Some I can’t stand to watch because they’re ugly and evil and talentless (Lena Dunham), or ugly, stupid and talentless (Amy Schumer).
