The first reactions to Star Wars: The Last Jedi have landed (No Spoilers)

It "might be the best Star Wars movie ever."

A long time ago in a galaxy, far, far....actually, slash a lightsaber through that sentence because audiences don't have to wait long to see the next Star Wars adventure. Yes, that's right. The wait is almost over.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is nearly upon us as Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, Breaking Bad) has the unenviable task of topping the box-office behemoth that was The Force Awakens. The fact that Johnson has already been given the responsibility to create a brand new trilogy is a very good sign, but what about the next installment of the world's most beloved saga?

As for the plot, here's what we're being told: "Having taken her first steps into the Jedi world, Rey joins Luke Skywalker on an adventure with Leia, Finn, and Poe that unlocks mysteries of the Force and secrets of the past."

While the official reviews are embargoed, a few journalists shared their spoiler-free opinions on Twitter and it's fair to say that The Last Jedi is shaping up to be an absolute triumph.

In fact, one journalist even remarked that it "might be the best Star Wars movie ever." Considering the brilliance of The Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope, that's high praise indeed.

Do you want to hear some better news?

It's also the longest film in Star Wars history. We think it's fair to say that the Force is strong with this one.

He’s a marine in real life. I can’t say I dislike the actor. The character grew on me too.

What hasn’t grown on me is any appreciation for modern Disney. I’ll wait to see this one on a used BluRay. I refuse to give them a dime.

Seriously, why is it when Harrison Ford has a son in the movies, he either gets the ultra-creepy douche Adam Driver or the psychotic ultra-creepy Commie douche Shia LeBoeuf ? On what planet would his DNA $hit out such maggots ?

How do you go from the Marines to being a disciple of Lena Dunham’s ?

No time soon. Force Awakens was over 2 billion dollars worldwide from the box office. The franchise isn’t going anywhere, the new one may possibly exceed one billion as well. Yeah, they are a stupid concept, and always have been, but I can enjoy them more than a lot out there.

I liked both The Phantom Menace and The Force Awakens.

The Phantom Menace is certainly dry as toast, but it looked and felt like a Star Wars movie. I’m not ‘crazy’ about it and warned people that it was mediocre at best when it came out, but I wasn’t as repulsed by it as I was after sitting through Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (those were downright horrible).

The Force Awakens was done well. It was exactly as I expected ... a predictable nostalgia trip with new characters. I enjoyed it and continue to enjoy it when its on. I don’t think people understand how badly the prequels damaged the Star Wars brand ... That’s why they had to play it safe and use a known formula to win over the general public. It’s a great movie that helps to forget about life for two hours.

The new one had better take some risks though ... If it’s a rehash of The Empire Strikes Back, nothing is going to save it. This “middle” chapter is very critical this time around since they gave Rey all sorts of powers with no explanation in The Force Awakens.

Plus they gave Luke a daughter, that’s a big gimmicks in and of itself.

Well, I knew some creepy-ass Marines in my time. Like the guy who pretended to be gay (though he was married) just to get discharged. Or the guy who shaved off his eyebrows.

One thing I’ve learned: when a new Star Wars movie drops the mega-fans say it’s the greatest thing they’ve ever seen. They said that about the Phantom Menace too

I was quite hyped up at the time, but from the moment the credits rolled I was criticizing it to my fanboy heart's content.

Force Awakens was different. While (very) derivative of Ep. 4, it was still far better than any of the prequels. Here's hoping #VIII is great....

With the exception of Episode 4, I thought all of the stories were weak. With all of the great writers out there, something phenomenal should be attainable for each installment.

My mom had a Pekingese named Ewok. Named by me, because that’s what he looked like as a puppy.

Beats me. These people seem to sell their souls to work in that stupid industry. Maybe he joined on with her before she got stupid political (though all of her work looks like hot trash)

Still, he did a good job in Star Wars in my opinion. He pulled off the rage filled, conflicted, short of an alpha male bad guy very well. I expect him to be better in this new one.

I gotta give Adam Driver respect for being a Marine. That training would kill doughy wimps like myself :-). Hopefully he played a role in helping to bring Lena the Hutt down.

I don’t think Rey is Luke’s daughter.

Have not cared for the post Lucas films but it’s gotta be better than The Star Wars Holiday Special.

Are you kidding me!?

That Christmas special will go down in history as one of the finest productions to ever come out of Hollywood. It was a masterpiece!! :-) (is a sarc tag necessary?)

Where else can one watch an elderly Wookie indulge in holographic softcore porn?

(No, really. I'm not making that up.)
