The sound which the planet produces is a low, steady, unceasing hum. Scientists have been attempting to record and explain the odd noise as far back as the late 1950s, with little concrete data to suggest its source. Now, new research published in Geophysical Research Letters is attempting to explain why it happens, and scientists think it might have something to do with the ocean.

This newest study is the first to actually record the sound from deep beneath the oceans waves. By recording ambient sound within the ocean and then using robust noise cancelling techniques to strip away the sound of the ocean itself, scientists were left with only the sound. They were able to confirm that the noise is completely continuous and, over nearly a year of observation, did not vary significantly.
But what actually causes it? Well, the jury on that is still out, but various theories have been proposed. One of the more plausible explanations is that the Earths hum is actually acoustic resonance. Acoustic resonance, which is the process by which objects of similar natural frequency will vibrate in sync with each other even if theyre not directly touching, could cause the Earth to produce a continuous vibration, some scientists believe, but others arent so sure.

Agreed - the title makes it sound like this is a new noise (”weird” , as in “not normal” - I was thinking of the sonic booms recently). This is just normal stuff that has been going on for billions of years.
However - it may lead to some revelations about the “Taos hum” and other local things like that elsewhere. I have done some projects for “sensitive” people that are annoyed by vibrations. I never felt them - but sensitive vibration monitors have picked up the vibrations - but pretty difficult to pin down the source. Although one time we did track it down for a lady - it was a pumped sewer-main that would kick on and off - it was about 50 feet from her house.
(Hmm - since the 1950’s they have noticed it? Maybe its the Chicoms digging a hole to reach us? )
Love that song but wtf is it about?
“The sound which the planet produces is a low, steady, unceasing hum.”
The Earth does this for the same reason hummingbirds do it.
It doesn’t know the words.
Thought right away of Frank Zappa’s Dinah Moe Humm. Won’t link it. If you want to listen to it, that’s your business.
“Plastic, Aholes”
Colossians 1:16 - For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Gaia is laughing at Al Gore and his minions.
Check for a bad capacitor.
Fake news.
I’m not sure what it is, but someone will either blame Trump, the UN will blame the USA, and Hollywood liberals will say conservatives are to blame...
Heh, or it’s coil whine.
Might be all the people who can’t believe where we are right now and they are spinning in their graves.
Bad ground connection.

The Earth is humming because it doesn’t know the words...
