That cannot be true, this is out in rural areas where the density is not great at all.

I’m in a fairly low density area and have those things on utility poles, haven’t seen a meter reader in many years, the other FReeper is probably right.

It is called a 'keg' meter. And yes, it is a data collector for 'smart meter'. Really, that's all it is.

Please don't fret over it. You are probably being converted to smart meters for all your water, electric, and gas very soon. Different companies have different styles and as technology advances they will look similar, but different.
