Georgia Dome imploded with nearly 5,000 pounds of explosives
fox news ^

Posted on 11/20/2017 8:39:25 AM PST by BenLurkin

The dome that opened in 1992 was flattened in 15 seconds at 7:30 am. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority said prior to the blast that it should take 12 seconds for the explosives to go off plus another 3 seconds for sections of grandstands to be on the ground.

The 71,250-seat dome -- which was the site of high school football state championships, Peach Bowls, SEC championship games, two Super Bowls, 1996 Olympic basketball, three Final Four NCAA basketball tournaments, concerts, pro wrestling and other events -- has been replaced by the $1.6 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium next door.

Well, I must say that the new Pittsburgh baseball stadium is a beautiful ballpark. I sure hope it has much more than a 30 year life span.

There were reasons why they chose to build a new stadium. Just because you don’t like it or understand it doesn’t make you the authority on it

The Silverdome was actually a beautiful stadium.
I remember as you exited the air pressure that held up the roof kind of fired you out the door like a pellet in an air rifle.

PNC Park is still a sore spot for most of us.

Funding was on the ballot. Voters rejected 2:1, 3:1. 4:1 and 5:1 (depending on what county you lived in).

The politicians went ahead and built it anyway.

I agree though, it is beautiful.

My answer to the 9/11 conspiracy theorists is that it took a professional demolition crew a month to place the explosives and run the wires on the Hudson building in Detroit before they took it down...........

You champion using tax money to build billion dollar stadiums to replace perfectly good billion dollar stadiums. Waste of Money.

Do you kneel or sit when you dribble from wherever at the municipal-collective’s gladitorium?

Oh, well conferences and trade shows and other things make the $1.6 billion well worth it I’m sure.

I’m also reasonably certain that the plan is to replace the new stadium in about 25 years.

>>what do they have to do with financing

Follow the bread crumbs back to the communist reductions of Paraguay.

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Paraguay+Reductions+Beautiful

The income of the reductions was controlled by...

A Central Bank / Holding Company.

The key to that grift is getting the suckers/employees/natives to deposit their labor into The Company Store so the fruits thereof can be lent back out according to the “rules” of fractional lending.

Like Orwell’s pigs, the Jesuits taught the animals under their purview just enough to make the farm profitable — without actually empowering the unenlightened non-swine to run it themselves.

I remember that place. I designed and installed a two way radio system in that place before the astro turf was completed. Walking across that structure that goes across the top allowed a great view of the field.

“There were reasons why they chose to build a new stadium.”

The Top Ten Reasons to build a new stadium in Atlanta:

10. There was nothing wrong with the existing stadium.

9. It was a great excuse to close MLK, Jr. Drive.

8. Who needs an historic church anyway?

7. A circular Jumbotron!

6. The spiffy roof probably won’t leak too much.

5. Saves on storage costs for the $600m the taxpayers would have had for roads, parks, schools, and etc.

4. The new place has TWO Chick-fil-A restaurants! Too bad they’re closed on Sundays!

3. It’s a beautiful monument to graft and corruption.

2. It’s got a sunroof!

1. It’ll be a fitting venue for the next time the Yankees (actually, the Patriots) burn Atlanta!

The same could be said of the King Dome.

Both would have had a 100 year life if they and their replacements were privately financed.

Not that I have anything against SafeCo field. It’s the prettiest park in MLB.
