Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday pushed back on the immediate need for a second special counsel to investigate former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
It would take "a factual basis that meets the standard of a special counsel" for the Justice Department to make such an appointment, he said during a heated exchange with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) at a Tuesday House Judiciary Committee meeting.
Jordan made a fiery case for allegations of improper spying on the Trump campaign by the Obama administration DOJ that widely touted amongst Capitol Hill Republicans.
Sessions at first demurred, noting that Comey is no longer the director of the FBI and praising the current director, Chris Wray. But pressed further by Jordan "He's not here today, Attorney General Sessions, and you are" Sessions appeared to throw cold water on the immediate need for a special counsel.
"I would say 'looks like' is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel," he said sharply.

I am a sucker. I believed Jeff Sessions to be an honorable man.
I was wrong. I was a fool.
Jeff Sessions = Donald Trumps worst, and possibly fatal, mistake.
It’s time for our corrupt Attorney General to go.
What a WEASEL he has turned out to be!
Sessions is not helping my confidence in him.
AG Sessions will not EVER say anything publicly to confirm or deny past, present, or future investigations.
For once we have an Attorney General who follows the law and proper investigative procedures and 99% of FR just can’t stand it.
Screw ya’ll. Maybe you can get Eric Holder to come back.

Is Trump really that stupid? I’m beginning to wonder if Trump IS playing four dimensional chess and he’s playing against us.
The alternative is that he’s just plain stupid, politically speaking. Well, either that or he’s up to something that has not played out yet and Sessions is part of it.

But at some point, Occam’s razor has to kick in.
He’s saying there’s no inherent appearance of Conflict of Interest with the DOJ and any investigation of Clinton.
Which is true.
There’s no need for a Special Prosecutor. Sessions just needs to do his job.
Wow. I haven’t seen a flip-flop this fast since Obastard was in office.
Way to go Jeff!
..will be what some of the hard-core Sessions fan here will say.
Tons of conflict of interest, this at a minimum:
The investigation was ultimately supervised by then-U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein, an Obama appointee who now serves as President Trumps deputy attorney general, and then-Assistant FBI Director Andrew McCabe, now the deputy FBI director under Trump, Justice Department documents show.
Both men now play a key role in the current investigation into possible, but still unproven, collusion between Russia and Donald Trumps campaign during the 2016 election cycle. McCabe is under congressional and Justice Department inspector general investigation in connection with money his wifes Virginia state Senate campaign accepted in 2015 from now-Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe at a time when McAuliffe was reportedly under investigation by the FBI. The probe is not focused on McAuliffe’s conduct but rather on whether McCabe’s attendance violated the Hatch Act or other FBI conflict rules.
Sessions, going back to 99% asleep mode. While DC burns, these slow motion creatures are aiding and abeting our enemies, enemies of USConstitution and the rule of law, enemies foreign and domestic.
Very disappointed in Sessions.
5.56mm
Sessions’ job 1 at DOJ is to obstruct justice in order to protect the swamp at all costs.
He’s either a RAT or he’s just plain stupid. A member of the U.S. Senate club...once again, the U.S. Senate rears its grotesque head. The only place a U.S. Senator, or former U.S. Senator, should be is burning in the pit of Hell.
“Is Trump really that stupid?”
Trump/Sessions need to wait until the Mueller thing has run its course before starting up a Clinton investigation.
His statements made today before committe prove him to be a senile fool out bested by a cocker spaniel.
