Alabama state auditor defends Roy Moore against sexual allegations, invokes Mary and Joseph
Washington Examiner ^ | 11/9/17 | Philip Wegmann

Judge Roy Moore, the Republican candidate for Alabama's upcoming special Senate election, denies allegations that he romantically pursued teenagers as young as 14 when he was in his 30s. Even if the allegations are true, one statewide elected official in Alabama said it's "much ado about nothing."

“There is nothing to see here,” Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler told the Washington Examiner. “The allegations are that a man in his early 30s dated teenage girls. Even the Washington Post report says that he never had sexual intercourse with any of the girls and never attempted sexual intercourse.”

After interviews with more than 30 people, the Washington Post reported Thursday that Moore engaged in sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32 years old and a powerful attorney in a small Alabama town.

The young girl, Leigh Corfman, said Moore touched her over her bra and underpants, guiding her hand to his shorts. “I wanted it over with — I wanted out,” she recalled. “Please just get this over with. Whatever this is, just get it over.”

Ziegler seemed unconcerned about that allegation and told the Washington Examiner that any political concern would be mitigated by three things. Moore never had “sexual intercourse” with the girl. Their relationship “happened almost 40 years ago.” And finally, “Roy Moore fell in love with one of the younger women.”

While it does not fly in Illinois. Alabama is a different world. But it is a bad system that says our candidate falters at the last minute so we have to get a lib when there are two people we would rather have. I would still vote for Moore. Because this does not speak to his ability to be Senator. And it does speak to a politically motivated girl who is now 48 years old and saved it to now. So this is totally political.

My grandmother was 13 when she married my 24 year old grandpa. I’m glad she did.

Would you prefer the phrase “child rapist” to pedophile? Is that less offensive for you?

Even the “victim” here says there was no sex involved. And here you are throwing out terms like “child rapist”?

What the hell is wrong with you?

I think my great grandmother was 14 and great grandpa was over 30. The whole ‘its creepy’ stuff is only about 50-80 years old... Oh hey, this happened 50 years ago. Yeah. Different standards. In Alabama 50 years ago this wasn’t that weird.

...and yes, if it was my daughter there would be shotguns in play. But that was normal 50+ years ago too.

The Five, every one of them, just said Moore should pull out of the race. All said it must be true because not one but four women have accused him, Bushie Perino was the worst. Basically saying he had to be guilty. Waters said “Four women, there has to be something to it’ and said he must withdraw.

So here’s what we have. The most popular politician in Alabama being slandered in a coordinated attack from democrats and the GOP establishment. Moore has been a fixture in Alabama politics for 40 years. Not one of these “victims’ said a word in almost 40 years. Like the paid skanks that accused Donald Trump, these women have been paid by the Uniparty. McConnell would rather a democrat be elected than conservative Moore. He’s too much like Trump, who McConnell hates with a passion. Hopefully Moore will ignore the allegations and Mike Lee, Ted Cruz and other conservatives will support him. The Uniparty led by McConnell and Ryan are rotten to the core.

There’s simply no reasoning with you.
It’s all emotion.
You are bitterly emotive toward anyone who does not see the world precisely as you do. Even if they are philosophically aligned, that is not enough.
They must be aligned for the same reasons as yourself.

So very sick of these swamp creatures. If they can’t win an election, outright, they steal it.

This kind of personal attack is right out of the Clinton Playbook, Politics of Personal Destruction. No cares if the charges are false, anything to destroy an opponent regardless of the consequences.

All of a sudden after 40 years this comes out, right at this time. I don’t buy it and then we have the spineless Jackass’ we have for leaders like McConnell and McCain calling for Moore to step down. Almost like it was all orchestrated and the talking points distributed.

Does GOPe really want to sacrifice a Senate Seat to destroy Trump and everything else? I guess the answer is yes!!!!

Another swamp playbook, just like the one they tried on Trump at the end of the campaign. Anyone heard from those 20 women since the election? It was all phony.

Where’s the outrage over Joe Biden groping young girls and any woman standing next to him?

I’ll believe these accusations when these ****ing senators and pressitutes get serious about a standing Vice President who groped women regularly, including minors. They all know it. Just another inconvenient truth...

Moore was a prominent judge and target for the left for almost two decades. There is no chance that this wouldn’t have come out long ago if there was any truth to it

Excellent point. Why, if true, did this not come out when the Ten Commandment issue was in play?

I am from Alabama. I don’t care for Roy Moore and never have. However I will vote for him. I find it hard to believe that none of this has ever been mentioned before. Moore has always been hounded by the press and he has never been accused of this kind of thing.
It seems that men can’t even breath without sexually assaulting someone. I have never understood women’s need to demonize all men. I personally love men, have had one of my very own for 48 years.
