HONOLULU — The U.S. Coast Guard said Monday that two Hawaii women who were lost at sea for five months had an emergency beacon aboard their sailboat that was never activated. U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Scott Carr told The Associated Press that their review of the incident and subsequent interviews with the survivors revealed that they had the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) aboard but never turned it on.

Exactly. Marinas have no shortage of dilapidated old boats. It might have been running, but I’ll bet that thing looked pretty much the same the day it pulled out.
I think it could still be a go. After all now it is not only a tale of daring survival against the wrath of nature but about plucky forbearance when faced with the suspicions and accusations of powerful misogynist forces.
Look at the faces of the Coast Guard crew members. They look all to a man rather put out. I don’t think they were happy to be there.
They probably figured it would just be a three hour cruise.

Love the illustrations. Coming back from a visit to the country last year, my bf was driving my car when a tire blew out with a loud bang. He pulled into a side road and changed the tire.
I watched this miracle in absolute wonder. Never in my life had I even known anyone who could change a tire. Awesome!!!!!
