During an appearance on Monday’s episode of “The View,” Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) appeared to help celebrate his daughter Meghan’s birthday.
During the appearance the panel of women asked McCain about the recent comments he made about those who were able to dodge the draft due to “bone spurs.” Many assumed that it was President Donald Trump he was referring to in the speech accepting the Liberty Medal, because Trump was able to secure five draft deferments for alleged bone spurs.
Co-host Joy Behar asked if McCain found it “galling” when Trump “cast aspersions on your service” after getting deferments.
McCain said it wasn’t as much an attack on Trump as it was a commentary on the system that allowed the wealthy a way out while the poor were forced to serve. He specifically cited the children of farmers or urban youth, “the poor” didn’t have the option to get a letter from a doctor, go to college or disappear to another country.
“That is wrong. That is wrong. If we are going to ask every American to serve, every American should serve,” he said.
He went on to detail heartbreaking comments he heard from veterans in response to Trump’s continuous attacks on Sgt. La David Johnson’s wife and mentor Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL).(snip)
He urged people to maintain a civil discourse, and the panel played a clip from the 2008 campaign in which McCain corrected a supporter who claimed that President Barack Obama was “an Arab.”
“Let’s stop insulting each other,” he urged.
The women of the panel asked McCain what kind of relationship he had with the president. Specifically, co-host Sara Haines asked if they talk on the phone or speak.
“Almost none,” McCain said.

I had this old Black & Decker set of tools, bought it a decade ago. They sat behind some other stuff and I forgot about them.
One of those combo sets: drill, sander and jigsaw. `Fire Storm’, but 12 volt batteries. You know, one of those multi-tool things that do three things, but none very well?
But I never used them, and found them a while back while doing barn cleanup. They are like new right out of the box.
Lost the charger! B&D doesn’t make the charger any more. You can buy them on e-bay or whatnot—if you pay a scalper ...
So I put my thinking cap on. I crimped some flexible 1/4” copper pipe, slipped them on the battery terminals, snapped on a one amp trickle charger, and it worked!
It’s the little things in life that make it all worthwhile, know what I’m sayin’?

But he did make it, and McCain has never forgiven him for it. When he gave thumbs down on the health care vote you know what was going through his mind and it was that Trump remark.
I really dislike that prick.
Synopsis: “He’s a rotten no good SOB who even Mother Theresa would have spat on. But look, I would like from this point forward for there to be civility and if that low life scum is in any way uncivil in his response, well, we’ll know that he’s as deplorable as we’ve all thought.”

Why don’t we take a roll call and see how many congressional members of that day figured out a way to get their kids out of that war. This was so commonplace at the time.
