Before the New Orleans Saints' victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, there was a peculiar moment leading up to the national anthem at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
In the Saints' previous game, a Week 4 win over the Miami Dolphins in London, the entire team kneeled before the anthem and then stood during the song. Some players were kneeling again before the anthem on Sunday -- before the flag was even unraveled -- and many fans booed the choice.
What made the situation so odd on Sunday was the timing. The Superdome public address announcer requested a moment of silence for Marcus McNeil, the New Orleans Police officer who was killed on Friday.
McNeil, 29, was fatally wounded early Friday morning while on patrol in New Orleans East.
Although the players began kneeling before the moment of silence, the boos rained down during it, and coach Sean Payton said it was a big misunderstanding.

No it wasn’t.
Trying to save his job and the NOS.
I expect teams to try and discourage booing by having these “tributes” right before the anthem is played. This will get much uglier before the player stop protesting.
I understood what happened and now I understand that Coach Payton is an idiot.
The teams have brought this “misunderstanding” on themselves. No sympathy at all here.
Kneegoes need to be gone.
Take a look at what this black police officer thinks about it.

Coach Paytons excuse is just like his teams defense. Full of holes like Swiss cheese.
I think Payton is the one with the misunderstanding.
somewhere I read some one suggested that police depts refuse to provide cops to NFL games. This would forced the teams/league to pay for private security.
I do not understand either why Pres Trump allows military display at NFL games.
The officer that was killed was Black. So any white that kneeled is obviously a white racist.
Knock it off!
Why are the fans booing? If they really gave a damn, they wouldn’t be at the game supporting these losers! I have no sympathy. The players are essentially giving them the finger, and they still go to the games and pay those tickets!

What?! Now, they’ve taken to unraveling the flag?
Is it too much to ask that “journalists” know the meanings of the words they use?
Exactly.
"I think it was an initial reaction by the fans that some players might be on a knee for the anthem, oh, but that wasn't the anthem. ... It was easy to see what happened."

“Is it too much to ask that journalists know the meanings of the words they use?”
They don’t have time to learn trivial things like that in journalism school. They’re too busy learning how push The Agenda and to use the copy and paste buttons for transferring democrat talking points into their stories. Also why waste time learning how to research and get credible sources when the democrats can tell them everything they need to know.
