NFL Anthem Protests Hit Fox As Verizon, Networks Consider New Deals
Forbes ^ | Oct 13, 2017 | Mike Ozainian

The protests by NFL players during the National Anthem have been hurting the league's television ratings since last year.

This season, as the protests have continued, the television ratings and ramifications for broadcasters have worsened.

More bad news for the NFL: an analyst for Credit Suisse yesterday downgraded his price and earnings per share targets for 21st Century Fox in part due to NFL ratings that are coming in below market expectations.

"We trim our 2018/19 EPS forecasts … ahead of Q1 earnings," analyst Omar Sheikh wrote in a note to clients Thursday. "The key near term headwinds are soft NFL ratings and the risk that the Sky transaction is blocked by UK regulators."

The downgrade comes at a time when the NFL is negotiating two important distribution deals that end after this season: Verizon's $250 million a year streaming agreement and the $450 million a year Thursday Night Football deal for games shared by CBS and NBC.

Through five weeks, the league's ratings are substantially lower this season, according to Nielsen data obtained by Sporting News.:

The league's average TV audience through Week 5 of the 2017 season dropped 7% vs. the same period of the 2016 season, and the average game audiences are down 18% compared to the first five weeks of the 2015 season. The NFL's average TV audience (including Sunday afternoon, Sunday night, Monday night and Thursday night games) slid to 15.156 million viewers through Week 5 of the 2017 season, down 7.42% from an average of 16.371 million viewers through the same period of the 2016 season, and 18% lower from the first five weeks of the 2015 season.

What conservatives lack the MOST is tolerance of other conservatives who do not conform 100% with their own agenda.

Just count the so called conservatives who are anti-Trumpers.

The liberals excel in tolerating all other liberals regardless of their diversion on some agenda issues.
How many anti-Hillary liberals can you count? I can, on my left hand fingers.

It seems you lack that tolerance as well, in your use of “so called conservatives” to describe some solid conservatives as being anti-Trump. Would you describe Ben Sasse (R-NE) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) as “so-called” conservatives? Whereas Trump did have the early support of Chris Christie and Rudy Giuliani - are these guys more conservative?

There are many anti-Hillary folks on the left, like Bernie Sandernistas and some so far out that they shout down Pelosi. Maybe they can’t be called “liberal”, however.

I rely on FoxNews.

That is the DOWNSIDE for me of Fox getting hurt by NFL Commie Bad-ell and the Uncle Toms of George Soros.

From a standpoint of pure superstition, I won’t have much problem holding out against the NFL — each time I’ve watched part of a Lions game this season, they’ve lost (currently 3 and 2, it sez here). Murphy’s Law — and we know that nothing, including the NFL, can resist that. :^)

The NFL Sunday Ticket just became as worthless as a single-sheet of used toilet paper....I’d wager that commercial income is going to tank too.

Most anti-Trumpers in my opinion are globalists under the control of their ultra-rich donor class. Senator Cruz for example received $40 Million from just 4 donors for his presidential run in 2016. He must obey their globalist agenda, not the ordinary middle class contributors who contributed may be 1/10th of that. That is why I refer to them as “so called”. Why do you think Cruz was pushing for 500% increase in H1-B visa immigrants? Or exhorting for a path to citizenship for illegals? I have recorded youtube video’s of both speeches.

In summary, any politician who is NOT for America First, is a “so called” conservative in my book. But, since I am tolerant of all politicians running against the democrats, I ALWAYS vote for them, regardless of whether they like Trump or not.

>>Conservatives are almost always ineffective at boycotting.
...
When liberals boycott, man...they mean business.<<

I have fojund it to be the opposite. Conservatives rarely boycott so when we do it usually works. And it is working as viewership in the NFL is down quite a bit.

We got whoopie kicked out as Slim Fast (iirc) spokesperson and some other victories.

In the meantime I don’t think you can point to a single successful liberal boycott.

But yes it is hard to get people to stay on the line.

This graphic #2 reminds me that it was exactly 10 years ago that I wrote Roger Goodell and predicted that he would run the NFL into ruin - partly due to refusal to allow Rush Limbaugh to become an owner, as well as allowing NE Patriots to maintain a win when they admitted they cheated it would have cost NE a trip to the Super Bowl. Goodell has been compelled to fulfill my prediction 😩

Thanks for the info, new to me.

The Arena Football League sounds interesting. With a smaller field, I expect it feels almost like a different game.

The Legends Football League provides an eyeful. Some of those ladies are barely dressed. That is too much of a distraction for me. I agree that they need normal sports uniforms to be taken more seriously. I’m willing to give women’s football a try.

I was (am) hoping for something more along the lines of the old AFL or the World Football League.

As it stand now, I may give the new AFL a try.
