Here’s the still shot from MODIS TERRA, 10/09/2017
18:30 UTC.
I looked at this wondering if I’d be able to DETECT these fires on this scale. It’s jaw-dropping.
There are two smoke plumes at the center left. The long one extends to the southwest over the Pacific to the latitude of Los Angeles.
The hot link works for me from the edit preview. You can go to it with a search on Modis Rapid Response Orbit Swath, and selecting the indicated “Terra” thumbnail.
This is a quasi-permanent gallery, so it shouldn’t vanish on you.
For later.

Nice nieghborhood and not inexpensive houses. Based upon your knowledge of the area, were the roofs a tile, or wood single style cover. Up in Butte County we have metal for two of our three roofs. THe Barn is the usual composite shingle probably past its lifetime.
It looked ofr the most part that things were cleared around the homes as much as possible and greenery all around. Shocking how the fire came through and attacked just what it wanted to attack.
And the AFFF gets in the groundwater, requiring not-cheap filtration and testing to ensure removal. Ask any military installation, or a city with a fire training facility. I’m dealing with a city affected by a military installation, right now.
Thank you.
I’m terribly sorry for his loss. My wife was born and raised in Petaluma.

Sorry to hear that. Tough to lose a house.
Did I hear ammo cooking off?
Jaw-Dropping to say the LEAST!
Outstanding, if grotesque video.
Thanks for posting it. I hope your house is ok and you’re safe..
Please tell your brother that we are praying for him. One of our friends lost her house as well, just devastating.
Perhaps or propane tanks going.
Yes, and fully automated system would be very expensive.
However, a simple hose with holes in it that you put along your roof ridge, hook up to a tank, and press a button - that would be much simpler. You’d need a couple of hours and some ladders.
Not to mention his car and camper.
Very well done. Thanks for sharing.
horrible.....horrible....appreciate the updates....
Thank you. I guess we should all have that “get away grab bag.” I know I don’t...but, will in the future.

with our fires in the NW this summer, even a few hundred miles away, our air was rated near hazardous...
I agree.
I am very concerned for my grand children.
