President Donald Trump did not mention Native Americans during his proclamation of Columbus Day, in a break from his predecessor.
"The permanent arrival of Europeans to the Americas was a transformative event that undeniably and fundamentally changed the course of human history and set the stage for the development of our great Nation," Trump wrote in his proclamation, according to The Hill.
"Therefore, on Columbus Day, we honor the skilled navigator and man of faith, whose courageous feat brought together continents and has inspired countless others to pursue their dreams and convictions even in the face of extreme doubt and tremendous adversity."

Columbus Day, though not recognized in every state, and has attracted some criticism over its celebration of the explorer's "discovery" of America. In recent times, there's been a push to renamed the holiday Indigenous Peoples' Day, to highlight those who already lived on this land before Columbus' arrival...

Well Google didn’t mention them either so I guess that’s okay.
We’re all expected to swallow the one-sided narrative that the white man came to America only to steal the land, spread disease, and shoot Indians, who at the time were all peaceful and living in harmony with nature. The moral of the story here? It’s OK to lie if it fits your agenda.
I’m fine with President Trump not mentioning us. Let Columbus have his richly deserved Day. Folks might to give us a “shout out” on Thanksgiving, though.

He also left out Asian People....of whom Indians are as well.
and thanx for the turkey and corn
Drive through an Indian rez sometime, and this anti-litter propaganda gif will make you laugh.
I don’t recall that “Columbus Day” was changed to anything else on a National Level.
“Indigenous Peoples’ Day[1] (also known as Native American Day) is a holiday that celebrates the Indigenous peoples of North America. It is celebrated in various localities in the United States. It began as a counter-celebration to Columbus Day, promoting Native American culture and commemorating the history of Native American people. The celebration began in Berkeley, California, through the International Indian Treaty Council, and Denver, Colorado, and now in Vermont, and Herndon, Virginia as a protest against Columbus Day. The latter is observed as a federal holiday in the United States, but it is not observed as a state holiday in every state, and most retail enterprises stay open.[2] Indigenous Peoples’ Day is usually held on the second Monday of October, coinciding with the federal observance of Columbus Day.[3] It is similar to Native American Day, observed in September in California and Tennessee, and the same day as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in South Dakota.”
Well, the Indians were here and living in the stone age. I guess he could mention how fortunate they were to eventually be lifted out of the stone age by European settlers. Columbus should be celebrated for sparking the migration of the people who ultimately created the civilization we have heretofore enjoyed and are now running into the ground.
Excellent! Real history would actually tell you about the bloody, brutal way life was for most if not all of the Indian groups, who were constantly attacking each other, fighting for dominance within their own language group, etc. It would tell you about how women were just traded around, how only the lucky captives got to be slaves, since usually they just tortured their captives to death, etc.
BTW, I was visiting a Pueblo in New Mexico a couple of years ago and the young man who showed us around - who was studying geology at the University - said that they were going back to Indians, because it was distinctively American and didnt make them sound like anthropological studies the way native Americans or indigenous peoples did.
Columbus and the other Spanish or Spanish-funded explorers called them Indians, of course, because he originally thought he had found a route to India or the Indies, meaning the Spice Islands, and that these people were inhabitants of Las Indias.
He also did not mention thousands of other groups. It seems like his point was to honor Columbus, not tell world history since creation. No doubt, someone would be offended by this....
and the Iroquois were astounded to find that the white man couldn’t roll a smoke.
So there ya go. We learned from each other.
So we’re supposed to celebrate a Stone Age people on this date?
Why?
>>Lol, Trump just really enjoys kicking the snow-flakes right in the nuts, doesnt he?<<
Yes, he certainly does, and it’s my fervent hope that he continues to do so at EVERY opportunity.
>>Refreshing not having to hear pandering to every marginal group at every damned speech.<<
Well and truly said.
>> I am SO happy he has replaced the decades of constant sucking up to every minority, no matter how small, with praise of the US of A, its history, and its goodness.<<
Can you imagine how many millions of Americans you have spoken for by making this statement?
>>many were cannibals, most were very aggressive and war-like.<<
Anyone who doubts this should read the book entitled Captured by the Indians: 15 Firsthand Accounts, 1750-1870, edited by Frederick Drimmer. (Not recommended for Snowflakes!)
I should have celebrated Columbus Day by visiting an Indian Casino.
