We’re all expected to swallow the one-sided narrative that the white man came to America only to steal the land, spread disease, and shoot Indians, who at the time were all peaceful and living in harmony with nature. The moral of the story here? It’s OK to lie if it fits your agenda.

I don’t recall that “Columbus Day” was changed to anything else on a National Level.

Well, the Indians were here and living in the stone age. I guess he could mention how fortunate they were to eventually be lifted out of the stone age by European settlers. Columbus should be celebrated for sparking the migration of the people who ultimately created the civilization we have heretofore enjoyed and are now running into the ground.

Excellent! Real history would actually tell you about the bloody, brutal way life was for most if not all of the Indian groups, who were constantly attacking each other, fighting for dominance within their own language group, etc. It would tell you about how women were just traded around, how only the lucky captives got to be slaves, since usually they just tortured their captives to death, etc.

BTW, I was visiting a Pueblo in New Mexico a couple of years ago and the young man who showed us around - who was studying geology at the University - said that they were going back to “Indians,” because it was distinctively American and didn’t make them sound like anthropological studies the way “native Americans” or “indigenous peoples” did.

Columbus and the other Spanish or Spanish-funded explorers called them “Indians,” of course, because he originally thought he had found a route to India or the Indies, meaning the Spice Islands, and that these people were inhabitants of “Las Indias.”

He also did not mention thousands of other groups. It seems like his point was to honor Columbus, not tell world history since creation. No doubt, someone would be offended by this....

all this talk of indigenous people? we already know the "indigenous" people of the USoA land actually came from to the land from elsewhere so there truly are no indigenous people of USofA. There are people who came here first, but they are not by definition Indigenous. in·dig·e·nous inˈdijənəs/Submit adjective originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; native. I'm 2nd generation born in USofA. I'm by the above definition indigenous to the USofA. I think anyone conceived and born here can claim that definition, though it would muddy the waters of non citizens coming here and 9 or so months later having a native child, though maybe not a citizen. Indigenous does not seem to mean what people thinks it means when They say indigenous People's Day
