“cinematography”
Saw the 4k trailer. Not impressed.
You called that right...tanked at the box office. Had good reviews, though.
My review by the title alone.
“Blade runner 2049”
This guy has got to be sixty years old by now. Having spent the last 30 years of his life in jail for killing his girl friend the only purpose of this movie is to gain some sympathy for a fat old man with no legs. Who wants to see that?
If you like MacKensie Davis stream Halt and catch Fires on AMC about the computer industry circle 1980s.
agreed, loved it and I rarely spend the time or money going to the cinema. I did see it in imax, which was well worth it.
Saw it last night. It was good, if a little too long - I had sort of lost the point by then, and now I’m not even sure there was a point - but the special effects were great and the acting was good (IMHO, the best was whoever played the chief detective - was it Robin Wright - a short but important role).
It could have been 30-45 minutes shorter. It was good, but would have been more thought-provoking if it had been shorter and more focused. However, it’s not one of those movies that make you feel you’ve lost that time out of your life by even being in the theatre. I’d say go and see it.
Just got home from seeing this flick with my wife.
One of the best movies ever made, IMO. Absolutely brilliant!
Haven’t seen this new Blade Runner yet, but liked the original.
I don’t understand the reviewer saying he didn’t like Kingdom of Heaven. I think it is a great movie. Get the DVD and watch it with the “Pilgrim’s Journey” turned on. It gives you a lot of the historical facts the story was based on. It even says the bad guy with the red hair was actually WORSE than portrayed in the movie!
It indeed is a great film. Needs some narration though to do better at the box office. :-)
Ive seen things you people wouldnt believe; attack ships on fire off the arm of Orion......
Like you, i saw the original in the theater, on it’s release date.
It was one of the old style big screen theaters.
Santa Barbara Ca.
Was there for the earliest showing and stayed all day watching over and over.
Had to fetch my girlfriend from work at about 6 pm.
We returned to the theater and i made her sit through 2 more showings.
I loved it, was what i saw coming in our wonderful country’s future. She hated it, called me crazy. We broke up shortly thereafter.
Tomorrow i will be going to the theater for the first time since that day more than 25 years ago.
And... the first cam copy is up on a link site.
I don’t know how Hollywood makes a dime (not that cam copies are worth watching- a good pirate copy will be up soon though).
I generally hate about 85% of movies and I thought it was pretty good. Totally amazing landscaping, sets, visuals. Yet the impressive visuals didn’t take over.
The story was very good, also, a pet-peeve of mine.
I had heard it was going to suck and it totally didn’t —I was amazed.
A definate plus:
No homo stuff or ‘white people SUCK!” stuff, or at least not enough that I can remember it now.
Without giving anything away, I also recommend it highly. It builds on the original and creates a great mystery. The cinematography is great, too. There is another thread on FR with more info for those who search for it. If possible, spring for the expensive tickets and see it in 3D, large format screen and with a theater with the amped up Dolby Atmos sound system. I haven’t experienced anything like that since sensurround or maybe not even then; full 360 sound with a lot of physical impact, vibrations, etc.
OK!
I went and saw it.
The theater was about 20% full, which would normally be pretty bad for a first-run, but at 10 PM on a Sunday night - not too bad. Plus, I saw the standard version, there was running at the same time the 3D version, I have no idea how many people were at that one, but the couple in line in front of me bought 3D tickets...
It seemed as though it took a while to get going. Well, that’s after the first happening to Sapper... but it did seem long.
Then, when it got going, at first I wasn’t sure who was good and who was bad. Remember that in the original, ANY replicant on Earth was illegal and marked for extermination. Well this is not so cut and dried. I’ll just leave it at that.
It was loaded with views of the cars flying and arial shots of LA. I wish they had spent some more time on the shots of the environment, but I guess you can only fit so much into a movie.
The sound was excellent. a few times, a bit too loud, but overall was very nice. It seemed to me that maybe Vangelis’s theme was played at low volume in the background... until the end.
You are not sure who lives or dies. Or who SHOULD live or die! At first, I was a bit confused by that, but it works out in the end.
Goslings acting was superb! In fact all the actors were first rate. The only thing that seemed wrong was the casting of Robin Wright as Yoshi, I still think they could have made a better choice.
The ending is OUTSTANDING! As I watched the movie, I kept thinking about the Rutger Hauer speech and wondering how they could end this pic as effectively.
But they did it. I will probably not see it in the theater again, but will buy the DVD asap!
There are alot of questions raised by this movie... I won’t ask or answer any of them here... but GO AND SEE IT, you will not be disappointed!
One of the best I’ve seen in years.
For anyone planning to see it, shell out the extra cash and see it in IMAX 2D. Even though it’s not 3D, it’s worth it.
In that environment, if you’re not shaking after the last fight scene, you have no conscience.
Saw it yesterday in 3D. It is a visual masterpiece but overall a letdown. The original just has tons more soul. Reminds me of the TRON reboot.
I just learned Robin Wright, Officer K's boss, was the Princess in Princess Bride.
