Not as much of a rock person. But grew up in 80...I didn’t care much when others passed...Prince etc...but this was different. It did hurt...
Didn’t follow his music too closely but always enjoyed it a lot. My best memory was when he and the Heartbreakers toured with Dylan in 1986. I caught them in Madison Square Garden and it was a great concert!! Thanks for the music and memories, Tom!!!

What do you mean by that? I never saw it, but looked it up on IMDB.com. I don't get what you mean.
I watched the Petty documentary on Netflix last night, it’s long (about 4 hours), but worth every minute.

(Unfortunately, the Gators did back down today against LSU)
I think I was the only person in America who actually enjoyed that movie.
Been listening to a lot of Petty lately. Also jonesing for a Rickenbacker guitar. I've got nine guitars, no Rics.
First time I saw Petty was on SNL in '79. I was almost 11 and I thought he looked like my older cool cousin. I've been a fan ever since.
I took my mom to see him live at Red Rocks with the Heartbreakers. Must've been 2002. Last concert I ever saw with my mom. She wanted to go because her idol, Jackson Browne was opening. As a guitar nut, I was in heaven. Petty and his band played for about two hours, nothing but hits. You forget how many hit songs that guy wrote! Between him and Mike Campbell, they must've toured with at least 60-70 mostly vintage guitars. They didn't play the same guitar two songs in a row. At the end of each song, they'd take off the guitar they had been playing and strap on something different. What a show!

I feel like Tom Petty was the last great one before rock went down the tubes.
Loved the first and second records. Saw him in a small 1000 capacity place somewhere around damn the torpedoes. Then he did back to back shows at Red Rocks Amph. In Colorado, can’t remember which record he was supporting. The Two Tom Tour with Tommy Toutone. Got to see both up close. Amazing.
Roughly 25 years later, that list has gotten much shorter, and the holes are not being filled (sadly).
I was listening to Tom Petty’s songs and forgot how many I knew and use to listen to throughout the 1980s and 1990s. A
Think he had around 20 famous songs?

“I watched and listened to the video of Refugee again and I will say that the Hammond Organ makes this song when it kicks in.”
That would be Benmont Tench, IMHO the best all around rock keyboard player ever. Most keyboard players are better at either piano or organ, Benmont is a master of both. Check out his grand piano solo on “Melinda below. He also has his own band, and does a lot of studio work as well.
