The Austin City Council voted Thursday to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day, a holiday that honors Native Americans, and no longer recognize Columbus Day. Austin follows such U.S. cities as Berkeley, Seattle, Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix, and most recently, Los Angeles, in replacing the traditional holiday to instead declare that the second Tuesday of October honor Americas indigenous people.
Councilmembers approved a resolution that sought to create a path of healing and reconciliation noting that October 12, 1492, marked the beginning of the colonization of indigenous people that forever changed their identity, cultures, and achievements.

I don’t care what they call it as long as I get a paid day off.
How can they be indigenous people if they came here from Asia across the Bering Strait?
Nobody gets a paid day off for Columbus day but government drones.
I really wonder how long Texas stays “red”.
Just keeping Austin weird.
History is a living thing. It’s not even history. It’s agreed-upon lies. [Voltaire, more or less]
Or something like that.
They’d of got here a lot sooner,
except the lady died who had the wheel recipe.
If Spaniards had not wiped out the Aztecs, there would be no indigenous people left.
I’m Indigenous
I really wonder how long Texas stays red.

I think it has a while to go before the state turns blue.
But as more immigrants come it that can change for sure.
Austin is the very bluest of the localities in Texas, and their numbers are still distinctly less than the counter balance of all the “red” districts.
There are a LOT of people now resident in Texas (both legally and illegally) that have not yet gained the right to vote through the granting of full naturalized citizenship. But the day is coming, unless there is a big turnaround in the propaganda being fed to these prospective future voters.
Damn these cities! There’s not a state in the Union that doesn’t have the same problem.
Alas, Texas:(
In fourteen hundred and ninety two,
indigenous people didn’t have a clue,
If Chris and company hadn’t come,
they’d still be sitting on their bum.
I see potential for wit, here. First thing, be sure to put up the US flag on Columbus Day. If somebody whines about it, tell them it is to celebrate Italian-Americans.
Then ask them, do they hate Italians?
This works really well if you happen to have some Italian in you.
Plus, Americans, not leftists, become more patriotic when they see the flag, and this patriotism reflects well on the Republican party and conservatism. The Democrats get nothing out of it.
When liberals talk about “healing and reconciliation” look out!
I’m. Choctaw. I’m American Indian. I’m offended if you call me indigenous.
Racism is okay as long as it’s whitey who is being attacked.
