The drug, marketed as Valium, is part of a class of medication known as anxiolytic and sedative, which are commonly referred to as benzodiazepines, Scott Dehorty, LCSW-C, executive director at Maryland House Detox, Delphi Behavioral Health, told Fox News by email. Citing the Nevada Prescription Monitoring Program, the Las Vegas Review-Journal identified Dr. Steven Winkler as the prescribing physician, but he was not made available for comment.

Dehorty described diazepam as a highly addictive medication, which can have paradoxical effects. He cautioned that continued use of the medication could cause patients to suffer from symptoms they initially sought relief from.

PING!
It is also given to people who have seizure disorders because it raises the seizure threshold. It's a great med for that. But like any benzodiazepine, it is highly addictive.
I think it is the pharma name for Valium which is, I think, a downer.
But of use maybe if somebody wanted to control their adrenaline flow.

Way back in the day it was prescribed me for high BP. Didn’t do much, so I stopped taking it after about a months’ use. Quitting it presented no problem at all for me.
Oh, one more thing: you generally see paradoxical effects in children, not adults- not to say it’s unheard-of, but I’ve never seen a paradoxical response in an adult to whom I have given Valium in the ER.
Every paradoxical effect I’ve seen has been in children. And by ‘paradoxical,’ I really mean ‘going fangs-out ape-shit crazy.’ I mean, not even capable of coherent thought or reasoning, swinging at everyone, biting, flailing. More to the point, from my observations, purposeful judgment and planning on the part of the patient during such a reaction is strictly (and by that, I mean absolutely) impossible.
Benzodiazepines, (Lorazepam, Valium, xanax etc.) and the most addictive substances on the planet.
Not even heroin compares.
50 of the 10mg variety, twice prescribed over 10 years is nothing and not significant in any way.
My sister sometimes takes it to help her sleep..she also takes it when flying(So she can sleep throughout the flight) so its just not used for depression or anxiety
You’re thinking of Diltiazem.
It’s Valium and not nearly as associated with inducing suicidal or homicidal psychosis as typical anti-depressants that affect serotonergic or catecholamergic systems.
A bigger deal should be made of how many of these deranged killers have a history of use with prescribed mind-altering meds. Could it be they cause a huge disconnect so that the maniacs no longer distinguish fantasy from reality? That they have no sense of accountability?
Very true.
You never, ever, ever, ever want to experience Central Nervous System Rebound. That is the worst thing ever. Do not get addicted to benzos.
Also true that his prescription for this drug had absolutely nothing to do with anything.
I get valium every time I have a dentist appointment. I have severe anxiety when I go. I guess I am lucky that I never wanted to kill anyone or wanted more. Same with pain meds. I hate the feeling of being foggy. lol
I’ve seen someone become dependent on Valium, suffer severe panic attacks in the withdrawal, start abusing Ambien as a substitute Valium, and go really crazy, paranoid, accusatory, during that phase - fortunately flight rather than fight.
Sustained planning was beyond him but he could pull himself together for a few hours at a time.
Professional poker players will use Beta blockers. Not valium. This man doesn’t sound like a pro player. He sounds like a loser from the moment he inherited his money or hit a lottery jackpot.
Diazepam is not addictive as in the sense of opiate addiction but certain types of benzodiazepine if taking for a very long time need to be weaned off with diminishing doses over a period of time or you will have palpitations, sudden irritability and possibilities of seizures.

I read someplace the nicotine is more addictive than heroin. How does nicotine compare with Valium et al?
.
I wasn’t thinking he might get an adrenaline flow from playing poker but going full auto will definitely pick up one’s heart rate.
Well, they’ve tried:
brain tumor
living with a gold digger
guy ‘snapped’
pills
now ‘valium’...
“Deinstitutionalization”
Also - ‘random killing’ - didn’t know it was Trump supporters he was targeting...
BS
BULLSH*T
Here what it really is: the killer was a WHITE LIBERAL ELITE WHO HATED TRUMP SUPPORTERS.
HE HAD THE SAME ‘DISEASE’ THAT CNN HAS, THAT BLM HAS, THAT NFL OWNERS HAVE THAT HOLLYWOOD HAS - - AN EXTREME HATRED OF TRADITIONAL AMERICANS...
