I eat most everythinbg from my garden raw and have for many, many years.

And you didn't get e-coli because you didn't have illegals pooping in your garden and handling your produce.

Septicemia and e-coli usually indicates a failure in the peritoneum. Could have been a slight tear in the colon from a routine colonoscopy. Could have been from diverticulitis. The e-coli joke I get. But the septicemia is the tell.

From earlier this year...

Rare E. coli ‘superbug’ found in California

If this is the strain that Hefner had, where/from whom did he acquire it...?

I’d really like more info on which strain of e coli Hefner had. Hope someone in the press follows up.

He died 90 years too late. Imagine an America without this leech.

Hospital is the best guess.

Sadly, hospitals kill

He served the time, the time didn't serve him. Someone else would have done it.

Consider if you will that....if it wasn’t Hefner, it would have been someone else.

> So cook our lettuce, our tomatoes, our snap peas? I eat most everythinbg from my garden raw and have for many, many years. I cook the squash, corn and green beans but the sugar snap peas, lettuce and maters I eat raw.

The warning applies to commercially grown produce. The things you grow yourself are almost certainly safe without cooking, unless of course you have the habit of pooping in your own garden or using raw manure for fertilizer.

Many traditional salad dressings are to an extent anti-microbial. Vinegar is, garlic is, salt, pepper and oregano are. Lemon juice is. Make up a nice dressing with the aforementioned, and always wash raw vegetables very thoroughly before making a salad or putting lettuce and tomato or anything raw on a sandwich. Imported produce is often fertilized with human waste, particularly from Mexico.
