Here's what's happening to your iPhone battery life in iOS 11

Apple rolled out iOS 11 on Sept. 19, giving everyone with devices as old as 2013's iPhone 5S some fancy new features and ramped-up processing speeds.

So far my battery drain is horrid. I use the exact apps(all updated), the exact settings and everything else equal as I was using on the previous iOS 10 and my battery drain is about 50% faster. If you haven't upgraded your devices yet I suggest waiting. This issue pops up with each major Apple release and by now you would think it would be a major issue approaching gold release, but apparently Apple does not get it.

I've noticed this as well, but not until you mentioned it. I suppose they never deal with the battery life issue to keep folks upgrading.

I'm on a 6. Not sure what benefit there is to upgrading at the moment. Battery life, eventually, I guess.

I won’t even let my 5S update to 10.2.1.

I have no issues and am not interested in any potential personal liberty downgrades.

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Luna from Walmart for only $25 after rebate. It is the first good quality cell phone I have owned.

I am amazed at how long the battery lasts. Just last night I talked to an old friend for over an hour and when I checked, the battery was still 96% full. It recharged completely in just a few minutes.

I’m pretty sure iOS 11 works best with the new iPhone 8/8S and iPhone X.

So, get one of those and stop your griping. Apple will appreciate your contributions.

My 7+ suits me just fine. Probably downgrade tomorrow until APPLE gets the bugs worked out.

I have iPhone 7+, actually 2 of them, plus 4 6+, and a couple 6s. None have any problems with battery and iOS 11. They work fine. There was lag with initial updates, then it is simply smart usage--kill apps that you are not using, turn screen down a bit, etc. All is fine. I've talked to others and everyone is overall surprised to here that some people are having battery issues.

Wait on update? NO WAY. We did ours when they came out, still exploring new features. Some I like, others are 'why change things', but that is typical of every major release of Apple or Microsoft products.

Interesting, because my battery life was great before the update and spectacular since. Even being on all morning, at lunch time I’m at 96%.

They purposely embed these upgrades with performance drains so that users get frustrated and upgrade to the new phone which, surprise, is released just afterward.

My God,I just came across this thread.

I upgraded my iPod Saturday and I recharge the battery every night.

Don’t pay much attention to the battery because I use the iPod less then 2 hours a day.

When I saw this thread I picked it up and looked——it’s almost drained.

I am stunned.

Several articles with thousands of test cases showing how serious the drain is.

I don’t get it. Off the charger, talk on the phone for an hour, surf the web and I’m at 200% and Apple charged my credit card for the power used.

Two days ago my Daughter emailed that her Iphone had gone black screen. They are moderately wealthy and I suspect she has the best one.

Yesterday she emailed me that it took her all day to download and restore everything on her new one.

Do those plans that provide a phone for free in exchange for high monthly charges, usually provide the newest version?

If you do not know, anyone else?

I wish I could figure out why some people get so bent out of shape over this silliness.

I have an iPhone 5 that was given to me by my daughter...to replace an old Jitterbug I had. I would have never bought it for myself...in fact, I didn't buy the Jitterbug...I was perfectly happy being able to go to town and screw off and not get a damned call about picking up milk or something or just be asked what I'm doing...as if it's their business.

I've found two advantages...one is that I can hear better on it...the other is the built-in compass and level.

All them "apps" don't do nothing for me.

I plug it in about every 4 days...it charges back to 100% and I'm ready to make my once or twice a day phone call.

Guess I'm just an old fuddy-duddy and a Luddite.

I do like that part about having that woman ask me what I want, though...and I just say "call such and such", and be damned if she don't do it for me.

So I guess that's three advantages.

She even converses with me...but I ain't been able to get her to say a dirty word, yet.

Technology is wonderful, ain't it?

In fact, it's too good...I was screwing off in the pool hall and my wife called me and I said I was looking for paint at the hardware store to paint her kitchen with, and she says yeah, right, and I suppose that noise I hear is paint cans rattling and not snooker balls clicking.

Damn phone is too good.

That’s right. Buy a 2300 watt electrical generator and a 10 gallon gasoline can.
