Perfect day here in Connecticut. Just sitting on my back deck and not watching NFL football. Bonus summer day even though it's officially Autumn now. Yesterday I had gone to the Big E fair in Springfield, MA and ate pounds and pounds of deep-fried things that I never should have eaten. But at least I washed it all down with beer and cider.
Mowed some lawn which is surprisingly still lush and green for this time of year. Some leaves are falling but not many.
But what I did mostly was look up at the deep blue skies where I saw plane after plane passing overhead at 35,000 feet. Skies are so clear that I can make out the entire plane with the naked eye and white contrails flowing behind it. These planes are 7 miles up in the air!
Now I'm in the flight path sometimes for LaGuardia and those planes are usually about 15,000 feet up with no contrails but I pretty much know where they are going. Also get some local traffic to the smaller private plane airstrips in the area. But I never realized there was so much action at 35,000 feet.
I often wonder where those planes are going. And where they are coming from. And who is up on those planes? Might be long forgotten about friends and family members. Might be a celebrity like Pat Benatar or Bobby Orr, the hockey player. Who knows who is up there in those airplanes just 7 miles over my house? Could be anybody, right?
I fly often myself and like to get the window seat where I can gaze down at the ribbons of highway from 35,000 feet up, trying to make out landmarks and such. Hard to do at such heights but every now and then, I'm able to pick out something that I recognize like the skyline of Charlotte, NC or one of the Great Lakes in the midwest. It's fun to look down from that height. Especially when I'm coming over the Rocky Mountains on an intercontinental trip or flying to Hawaii in which I like to be the first one to spot the tiny islands way off in the distance.
But anyhow, I wish there was a way I could figure out information about those airplanes flying so high over my house.
I just want to punch that guy in the face!
I’ll take your word for it. I slept most of my way through science class so I can’t remember if aluminum is a chemical or an element or a mineral or a neutron or a proton or some other science-y sounding word.
That seems like a very small amount for this time of day.
.
I know I’m in a flight path for choppers. About once a month there’s a three chopper formation that flies right over my house. Commercial choppers all the time, too.
Here in Maine, back in the 1980s as a teen I had a telescope in the back yard and zoomed in on several different airliners such as Braniff 747s, TWA, Delta.
At the time, my assumption was that they were flights between Europe and JFK New York City. Now, with the internet and live flight trackers you can view those planes over your location and get the present altitude, speed, location, departure and destination cities.
To my surprise these flights above New England that are seen over Maine (and likely over your New England state) are not at all limited to flights to and from airports on the east coast.
Some of those lines departed Europe several hours ago and the arrival city is Mexico City or others major cities in that region. One flight I tracked over Maine departed Moscow for Dallas, Texas.
So, I’ve learned that even though they are flying over New England, their destination could still be thousands of miles away and not even in the United States.
Normally, a flight path from Europe to Chicago would take them well north of the USA and somewhere over Canada. The exception could be if they had departed a city somewhere in southern Europe.
Here’s a flight tracking tool I was referring to
Just saw and Austrian Airlines plane over my house - headed from Newark, NJ to Vienna, Australia @ 24,026 feet.
Many yes but not all. Some are flights between Moscow and Texas, Europe and Mexico City... etc.
“Install Plane Finder and point your phone at it.”
be careful doing that though: be sure to install the optional chemtrail filter or risk burning out the Bieber sensor on your phone if the chemtrail is too poisonous ...

I had a friend with a Boston Whaler in Quincy.
We used to cruise almost right up to the seawall at the end of a Logan runway and watch them land right over us. We brought a cooler of beer.
This was in the 80’s.
Never can do that now. Get shot right out of the water.
Contrails don’t spread. They dissipate.
Now that Whitey Bulger is a guest at Club Fed I doubt that many people are being shot in Southie!
Cool!
It told you Who was on the Plane???
Dont forget there's Newark,Boston,Philly,Baltimore,Washington.IIRC all the norheastern departures follow pretty much the same route...northeast over New England, over the ocean, southeast to various European cities.
