The Center for Biological Diversity released video of a wild jaguar caught on a trail cam in the Chiricahua Mountains. The jaguar appears to be the same one that was photographed in November 2016 in the Dos Cabezas Mountains, according to a news release.
Students at the Paolo Freire Freedom School in Tucson named the jaguar "Sombra."
Researchers said that these images taken seven months apart are good evidence that the animal has made southern Arizona its home.
The center said jaguars have been photographed in the United States for the past 20 years.
Three jaguars have been spotted in Arizona since 2015: El Jefe, Yo'oko, and now Sombra.
Researchers are hopeful that these sightings signal a recovery in the American southwest.

I was under the impression that Arizona was the far northern extent of the jaguar’s range.

Very cool.
I like the idea of big cats in the neighborhood.
I’ve lived in SoCal for a long time, and i still get a kick out of the fact that “there’s lions in them thar hills.”

Pretty cool. I don’t really want to see it in person, but I think the animals are exceptionally interesting. I wonder if ranchers have problems with big cats like these out there.

Center for Biological Diversity is often suspected of faking jaguar photographs and the like. When they were building a school one time the neighborhood set up a 24 hour watch because they were afraid Center for Biological Diversity would plant an owl nest.

See, this is another reason I despise and detest liberalism.
“Diversity” used to be a perfectly good word, useful, descriptive, well suited to the use of it.
Now, I even see “D...I...V...E...R...S...” and my blood pressure spikes.
It is kind of the same thing that happens to me when I see any representation of a rainbow apart from a real one that fills the sky.
