Last night Outkick broke the news that Linda Cohn, one of the most respected women to ever work at ESPN and the person who has hosted more SportsCenters over the past 25 years than any other current employee, was called and told by ESPN president John Skipper not to come to work after she went on the radio in New York City and said as follows:
They definitely overpaid for many of these products, whether its the NBA or starting up networks like the Pac-12 Network and SEC Network, she said on WABCs Bernie and Sid Show. Its well documented
They [also] did not see that they would lose all these subscribers [to competitors like Netflix.]

It’s almost like they want to take down ESPN...
Why?
Too bad I can’t boycott them... I’ve never watched them... ever.. My lack of interest has now turned to distaste.
Rumors are Disney, parent company of ESPN, CEO Bob Iger might run for POTUS in 2020.
Rush Limbaugh, Schilling, Ditka = out for telling the truth (though Ditka got signed to a 2 year extension after hammerin Obama)
I am close to cutting the cord and looking for some alternatives. I already have a ROKU TV so I can find plenty of stuff to watch. I looked at the new HULU TV offering which looks great for $40 a months. My only complaint is that I would like to have an offering without the Sports Channels included. Maybe they will have a choice like that and offer it for $20. That I could go for.

“I am close to cutting the cord and looking for some alternatives.”
My advice ... cut the cord right now. Call and cancel immediately. You’ll lolligag around and a couple of months will go by :-). You’ll find what you want/don’t want. I decided to cut the cord in 2014, but didn’t do it for months :-).
Also, Hulu is not $40/mo ... base price is far below that.
A pretty good deal is Amazon Prime. If you buy a lot of stuff from there, you’ll get free 2 day shipping. Their movie selection is decent (some of their exclusives like The Man in the High Castle are excellent) ... it’s $100/year. You can also buy stuff like HBO or Showtime for a month (you don’t have to commit to a year) if you want to catch up on any shows on those networks.
Just cut the cord first and find the stuff you want afterwards. You won’t regret it. Do not take any package deals the cable company might offer you to stay ... they’re not worth it. They don’t last very long (a year) and you’ll be right back where you started :-).
You can insult half the country, but if you question the corporation Disney will go from smiling mouse to crazy s***house rat biting your face off in a second.

I think I see the reason.
“Theres clearly a double standard. If you say things the company agrees with, you dont get punished. If you say things the company disagrees with, you do get punished. Maybe even fired.
Yes but this is true at just about every workplace.
Im tired, said yet another employee, of pretending this company is not full of shit.
The answer is simple then. Get a job at a company that isn’t “full of shit.” There’s a lot of hiring happening right now in the Trump Recovery.
Do not get me wrong. ESPN is SHIT - in capital letters. But the solution is what is happening - people aren’t watching ESPN...I tried to watch Monday Night Football...but the obvious attempt to find Anthem protesters (a big fail, like everything at ESPN) and the absolutely crappy beyond all imagination announcers first made turn off the sound then just turn the entire game off (the NFL itself isn’t much in the way of entertainment anyway). Turn the shit-network off and leave it off forever. That’s the answer...not trying to change human nature which is always going to have the boss being the boss.
While what she said was true, you never disagree with family in front of outsiders. She aired ESPN’s dirty laundry in public, it’s a sign of respect they just suspended her.
I’ve had the same thought. I guess social engineering is more important than profits. And/or top management is extremely dense and insular.
After Bob Costas’ gun control rant on Monday Night Football a few years ago, that network has been dead to me.
They don’t want to take it down. That puts them out of a job. They have the leftist mindset and are in a position to spread it to others while currying favor with their base.
It’s the same thing with all non-Fox networks. They don’t want to sink their own ship and are oblivious to alienating half their audience because, well, it’s worked so far.
And as Fox drifts away into leftism, we’ll be right back where we were.
Okay, but most Freepers would agree with this statement: “If you criticize your own company in public media, you will probably be fired.” So, why don’t they agree in this case?
I didn’t think ESPN broadcast basketball. Isn’t that TNT?
I agree with edh.
Call and cut the cord today.
I did so in 2013 and haven’t missed it once.
Not once.
maybe they know its a big fail and want to send the entire staff packing with out compensation.
That would be another big blow to Connecticut producing a glut of IT folks
