A woman in Miami delivered her own baby on Sunday after a dispatcher talked her through the process when Hurricane Irma prevented paramedics from reaching the new mother.
The woman was in her home in the Little Haiti neighborhood when she went into labor and called 911 for help, the city of Miami said in a tweet on Sunday. Paramedics werent able to reach the expectant mother due to hurricane-force winds and dangerous conditions as Irma approached southern Florida.
We weren't able to respond. So she delivered the placenta, also. Dispatch told her how to tie it off. She's stable at home, Assistant Fire Chief Eloy Garcia told the Miami Herald. "We made contact with the assistant medical director here. Talked things through."
Doctors at Jackson Health System went on the phone and coached the woman through the birth.

Where’s her family?
Good grief!
Yet another example of someone who refused to leave to protect themselves, thereby forcing emergency personnel to evaluate risking their lives to help.
She might not have been able to afford to evacuate, but she could have at the very least gone to a public evacuation center to be more safe, and to protect the life of the baby about to come.
People like this anger me.
Lucky for this young lady, she got a 911 operator who knew how to instruct someone in a very tense moment. Poor girl, though, no family around, no man around at that crucial moment, but she and her baby survived it anyway.
She chose not to sit still and be a victim of circumstances.
Woman delivers baby in hurricane because she is too stubborn to leave
Woman delivers baby....just like women have for millenia
You know that you can make a soup out of the placenta. I read that in a book that my ex-wife’s hippie girlfriend had. I almost barfed then and I think I’m getting nauseous remembering it now.
Actually Lee, she did chose to sit still and make herself a victim of circumstances. She put her baby at risk as well.
There’s nothing charming or brilliant about this stunt.

All other primates are born facing the mother.
Something to do with humans big brain, big head, etc.
Well, I just found this and I'm not going to change what I've said above:(maybe next time)
"A key feature of human childbirth, long thought to be unique to Homo sapiens the arrival of the baby facing backwards relative to its mother has been observed in our closest living relatives, chimpanzees."
I am betting she’s single. If she wasn’t they be using WIFE and ripping the guy for not being there.
Perhaps an illegal.
Maybe she had no place to go to. Use your brain you moron
I join you with that reaction.
Academically, I am a bit curious about what nutrients it might provide.
Babies obtain some pretty magical growth and brain developing materials from the placenta. (at least that’s my theory)
Makes me curious if there could be something to the idea of some of this passing off by making soup with it.
Back to my initial reaction... “:^)
I think it would be incredibly healthy due to the enormous concentration of stem cells but like you, the mere thought induces nausea.
Most areas have a public shelter, schools, auditorium...
That would be the place to go, at a minimum.
Could be. You’d think your life was more important than a consideration involving that though.
Good thing the phones still worked.
It used to be when there was going to be a huge snow storm that women who were due would go to the hospital early in case they went into labor and this happened...
why didn’t she go to a shelter or to a hospital...even a local fire station somewhere...early...
yeah wheres the “men” who had a baby today...don’t let a woman upstage you...
Im sure an illegal alien dacaca managed to have twins this morning...in 15 foot of water...over her head...
well the storm is not over yet...
