Today the USS McCain collided a merchant vessel, marking the 4th incident in the past year at the Navy. The timeline is as follows:
8/19/2016 USS Louisiana 5/09/2017 USS Lake Champlain 6/17/2017 USS Fitzgerald 8/21/2017 USS McCain These ships share similarities, they are all based in Yokosuka Naval Base, and the USS McCain & USS Fitzgerald are both part of Destroyer Squadron 15 and the Seventh Fleet.
While accidents and mistakes do happen, the number of collisions in the past year is extremely rare, and it is now within the realm of possibility that these accidents were not accidents. Both China and Russia have tested their cyber-warfare capabilities at sea with success.

AIS might give you a decent idea of where the other ship is, but not accurately enough to prevent a collision. I don’t think they would rely on it.
It is not a sub...in crowded waters they should be watching with there EYES
Or maybe they need to spend more time in Ops Training and less time in Diversity training .... Just sayin ...
Correct. Occam’s razor here. When your command, Sanchez & Sanchez, sounds more like an immigration law firm than a US Navy ship most likely you have a problem. And it’s not the Chicoms hacking the US Navy.
Once, ok, let it slide. Twice, coincidence? Three times? Wait a fourth? Please.

Where do we source our chips, boards and associated electronics? Have we willingly stuck our head into the noose? This is essential equipment. Why would we have subbed it to a nation that is diametrically opposed to everything we believe in, plus they steal everything they get their hands on.
No, it just emphasizes that visual lookouts should be on duty and alert at all times.
Murpy’s Law ALWAYS applies.
These incidents have all occurred during calm times, even if at night.
Command was not doing what it should.

China has lost a ship in the south China sea wonder if.........
I find it hard to believe that a destroyer could be rammed intentionally by anyone. I think this is the result Obama sought when he spent 8 years degrading our military in every way he could.
I agree but just posed the question. There is always the need for visual outlooks. Just like in the Army, we had the Fire Guard routine in the barracks. But now we have to review what and if any of the old lookout routines were eliminated because someone felt just too comfortable with technology. On its face, this tends to look more and more like a failure in the entire chain of command from the Pentagon on procedure.
Im sure there was a thorough non- PC investigation and no scapegoating...
Um
Don't know. We're in the era pushing driverless cars and windowless airplanes, so nothing would surprise me.
No, they can mess with the signal. Much easier and has been done since GPS was invented.
Anyone who posits this, or believes it, is completely ignorant of seamanship and the rules of the sea.
These collisions can ONLY happen due to human error, often on a grand scale.
It’s the only possible way.
So, don’t be a dumb ass...do your research.

Did China take away the watch’s binoculars?
