Anyone seen Dunkirk yet? Does it live up to the hype?

I've been hearing that Dunkirk is one of the greatest war flicks in history, with a few deniers panning it.

Anyone see it yet that can give a recommendation?

If you’re the type who simply needs boobies and a car chase (of which there are very many) then you will probably be disappointed.

It’s good, but not your classic war movie.

There is also much speculation that he didn’t have the heart to destroy the BEF and thus the halt and reliance on the Reichmarshall. Act of Mercy.

Excellent movie. If you can’t sit still or have no patience or can’t take things taking as long as they take, you won’t like it. Very original way to do a movie. Not a classic, but excellent.

Not bad but not great- it had French, black French and women in it.

You have got to be kidding———it means it was well advertised and hyped.

I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard that it is a terrible, racist, sexist movie, because it has no people of color or women (or transgenders).

Yeah, I heard the “lack of diversity in the cast” hand-wringing. Funny!

One of the best movies ever made. A story of discipline and courage in a hopeless situation.

Go see it. Very inspiring.

It’s a good movie but like Unforgiven leaves a lot out. England et. al. prayed for the delivererance of it’s army. There was unusual calm waters on the channel that allowed small boats to cross back and forth as well as cloudy skies that grounded the Luftwaffe for a critical period of time. I enjoyed the movie for it’s cinematic portrayer of a major event. There is only so much you can get in an hour and a half. Made me want to read more about the whole event. So I do recommend it whole heartedly.

I’m glad it told about an epic event but it was not as exciting as I had expected.

I went and saw it yesterday afternoon. It is not "one of the greatest war films ever made." It's not even in that ballpark. It is in the parking lot of that ball park. It is a tense, enjoyable and interesting film that focuses more on several groups of individuals. My only dislike was that the time is not linear as it switches from one group to the other. I should have expected that from Nolan and once I figured that out it made sense.

One thing I did notice, and I mention it because everyone I spoke to missed it, is that I always sit through all the closing credits. Many of the boats used in the film were actually present and participated in the evacuation and were noted in the credits. The one I remembered in the film was the "Mimosa" and I thought to myself "that looks like an old boat, I wonder if it was at Dunkirk?" It was along with a bunch of others.

“Definitely worth the $5 price of admission.”

$5 ?

ticket prices here are over $12.00. so for two that’s nearly $25.00 plus time to drive to and from a decent theater, park, etc.
