Hollywood has run out of ideas. What are they going to reboot next? Friends? Seinfeld? Small Wonder?

H-Wood has accessed the Wikipaedia dictionary, where “creativity” and “originality” have gone the way of the dodo.

Didn’t care for the series the first time it aired.

I might watch an episode or 2 to see how it goes. Not too excited about reboots.

Letterman once blurted out why he retired:

“Can’t compete with YOUTUBE vids...”

And ya know what?

They can’t.

Looking at old photos, it's hard to believe that Don Johnson was ever considered a "fashion icon" ...

Philip Michael Thomas I can believe ...

Whatever happened to him?

I’ve been watching the old series on the NBC app. So much better than most of what airs on TV now.

This could work as long as they remembered what made the original series a hit. As one of its creators described it, “MTV Cops”.

Flash, stylish and colorful fashions, hot cars and speedboats, and great music, from Jan Hammer’s Series Theme and character themes to Phil Collins. It had to be cool and trendy. Everyone except bad guys was beautiful. Lots of bikinis and showgirl outfits.

It also has to work against CSI: Miami, which tried to expand on Miami Vice with a lot more depth and color to their drama. For 10 seasons.

This is not going to be an easy project.

Miami Vice was lightning in a bottle. It was a groundbreaking TV for the 80s, with a “movie sensibility” that hadn’t been seen on the small screen before. Now, however, you have dozens of TV shows, including cop shows, that borrow from movies. So there’s not really anything new they can bring to the table. And Trying to set it back in the 80s again would just look campy.

This will bomb faster than “Cop Rock.”

They tried a TV remake of Miami Vice in 2006. It sucked!

How about rebooting “Tales of the Gold Monkey” from 1982?

(And I speak that as a fan of the only TV show that has ever inspired me to sit down and write fanfiction....)

I don’t how or even why. I can go to Hulu and watch the original and that was a good show about the first two seasons or so.

Then who will play the parts? Chances are they won’t be nearly as good as Johnson & Thomas. Why not just bring the Johnson and Thomas back as the older and wiser Crockett and Tubbs. I might watch that. They could play retired Cold Case detectives.

Sonny Crockett, probably the only fictional Florida Gator alum in TV history.

I agree—no original ideas—just “reboots” or sequels or comic book characters.

Wow—just what America needs—more Miami Vice.

Maybe they can bring back Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine too.

Hollywood has run out of ideas.

One of the many reasons why I cannot remember the last time I watched a program on one of the three networks.
