This could work as long as they remembered what made the original series a hit. As one of its creators described it, “MTV Cops”.

Flash, stylish and colorful fashions, hot cars and speedboats, and great music, from Jan Hammer’s Series Theme and character themes to Phil Collins. It had to be cool and trendy. Everyone except bad guys was beautiful. Lots of bikinis and showgirl outfits.

It also has to work against CSI: Miami, which tried to expand on Miami Vice with a lot more depth and color to their drama. For 10 seasons.

This is not going to be an easy project.

Agreed. The casting will be very important as well.

Superb analysis, and you’re completely correct.

What brought us to Miami Vice was how they always seemed to lose. No matter how hard they tried, just about all of the witnesses they were protecting, all of the abused people and all the of the downtrodden STILL managed to fail time and time again.

It was almost depressing and for that it was completely addictive.

It seemed that at the end of the day, villainy always won. A mirrored window into reality of fighting drug dealers, pimps and smugglers.

That was back when bikinis and great music were the "in" thing.

Today, bikinis are replaced with open bathrooms, speed boats and hot cars cause global warming, and the music and fashion is cultural appropriation.

You're right that it's not going to be an easy project.
