Everybody Needs To Stop The ‘Plus-Sized Models Are Awesome’ Garbage
The Daily Caller ^ | July 27, 2017 | David Hookstead

There is a national tragedy sweeping across America, and it promptly needs to come to an end.

For some inexplicable reason, American entertainment outlets think male consumers are entertained by “plus-sized” models. They’re not. Trust me when I say that there’s a reason men read the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine, and it has nothing to do with the seemingly unending supply of bigger models.

Naturally, I’m not suggesting that obese women are bad people. Obviously that’s not the case, and it’d be a lazy critique of my argument to even attempt to boil it down to that.

My point is very simple. Men love football, alcohol and the women in bikinis that they don’t see walking around the town. If I can look out the windows of my office building and see six people similar to a woman featured in Sports Illustrated, then put simply, that woman has no business being in Sports Illustrated.

SI’s Instagram account recently featured Tabria Majors, who is a “plus-sized” model.

Sorry, but bones are for dogs...I’m one of those people who like women with some meat on them.
Having said that, there IS of course a line.

Why don’t they occasionally mix it up with a buff husband and an obese wife? If the reverse is supposed to be funny, why wouldn’t that be funny too?

I believe most people would assume that the guy is gay, and using her for a "beard."

Speaking as a woman, I really like to see women portrayed in ALL sizes. (Not necessarily a celebration of what is unhealthy, like morbid obesity—but these women are not that). Anorexia isn’t normal or sexy, no matter how much the fashion industry and Hollywood push that lie, much to the destruction of young girls and women. Maybe someday there’ll be room for the average woman, who supposedly is a size 10 - size 14.

That might have been considered “Plus-Size” 20 years ago.

But the ones today that are called “Plus-Size” go wayyyy beyond that.

The word we’re searching for to describe the beauties in Post #5 is voluptuous. Not quite Raphealesque. :-)

Is that the girl from “Girls”? Lena Dunham, I think?
Wow.

Yes, indeed!

It is the vamp herself in all her corpulent splendor!

The one and the same beastie who told how she bribed her younger sister and her sister's friend to kiss her on the lips and how she molested her sister's intimate parts.

We're talking about the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, here. What you as a woman like should not enter the equation if SI is still sane and actually wants to sell a few copies. Apparently, they're no longer sane.

All women don’t like skinny guys either. Different strokes for different folks. I like a guy who looks solid. Not fat but muscular.

It would depend on how the comedy was written. It wouldn’t be difficult to depict the guy as straight.

Well in theory the models are supposed to be selling the product to WOMEN so who really cares what men think. Really we’re a plus sized world, might as well use models that bear some resemblance to the potential buyers.

The article is speaking of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. Do you really think women buy SI to shop for bikinis?

No, I understand what you’re saying, not arguing with that, and from what I remember of seeing models used in SI in the past, they’re STILL a lot sexier and curvier than the starved waifs of the runway. I’m really just talking in general about the unhealthy push for women to fit some kind of ideal that most women can’t attain/maintain. And the curves-in-the-right-spots women probably DO sell more to the average SI reader, but keep in mind that a lot of editors in publishing are a bunch of pajama boy liberals (I speak from experience), hence the agenda being pushed.
