My heart wants Cormier but my head says Jones.
OK, been out of the loop since November MMA-wise since cutting the cable. But I hear the entire MMA is fuming at Jones being allowed another chance. Is this true? And is Jones still the fighter he used to be?
All top five fight favorites.
(I hate not picking a single underdog...)
I believe this will be the night of “and new”. My Picks are:
Jones - I think he’s just too much for Cormier
Maia - it’s pretty much got to get to the ground at some point, right?
Cyborg - because, of course
Lawler - more durable than Cerrone
Oezdemir - dude’s been on a tear lately
Lamas - has faced better competition than Knight
Barao - close call, but the catch weight helps him
and random guesses of:
Ortega
Fili
Curran
Brooks
Dober
Moicano vs Ortega = Fight of the Night.
Let’s see, I’ll take the guy fighting against Cormier whose name does not exist, Maia, Roidborg, Lawler, Knight (seems unlikely that #15 will beat #3, but Knight is awesome, his name is sticking in my head now), and Dober, because Burkman seems down and out and this point.
The only chance Cormier has is that the UFC refs now can penalize a fighter even for threatening an eye-poke. It used to be “the first eye-poke is free,” and Bones took his one most every fight. But this will be Bones’ first contest since the rule change. His biggest advantage over Cormier was his ability to control the range and stay out of Cormier’s power-punching zone, and using his lead hand as a curb feeler was the key to that strategery.
Cyborg should not be fighting in this or any other women’s division. There is mounting evidence that the benefits derived from steroids — especially taken in large doses — never completely wears off. She was popped for stanozolol back in ‘12 but the unusual bone growth in her face (not to mention her mannish figure) is a pretty good indicator that that wasn’t her only experience with ‘roids, and that she’s not stopped taking them.
I think she and Dana White are like Lance Pharmstrong and the US Postal Service. “Yeah, we’re gonna hire you because until you get caught doping, we can pretend we didn’t know.”
I’m kinda the opposite.
I think DC has more of chance than is made out, but I’m still reluctant to pick him
I’ll take
Jones
Woodley
Cyborg
Cerrone
Manuwa
Lamas
Barao
Ortega
Fili
Albu
Brooks
Burkman
The the first question, I doubt it’s anywhere close to everyone but plenty of people think Jones should F off.
To the second question, we’ll see in a few hours! I’d say he probably is.
Main Card:
Jon Jones
Tyron Woodley
Cristiane Justino
Robbie Lawler
Jimi Manuwa
Preliminary Card:
Ricardo Lamas
Aljamain Sterling
Brian Ortega
Andre Fili
Dober KOed Burkman on the fight pass prelims, that’s 4 losses in a row, Burkman will get cut. Age 37.
Calvin Kattar wins UFC debut.
Lamas looked good, TKOs Knight.
Found a stream
Oezdemir KTFOs Manuwa in short order!
Thanks. I kinda figured the step-son was going a bit overboard but he was and is one of Jones’ biggest fans. I always liked Jones and thought he was a fantastic fighter but he got a problem with the nose candy and it made him stupid. I hope he has truly beaten it and I hope he does the same to Cormier tonight!
